So it's my 4th class in and we're already on Chapter 3. It's been over 10 years since I've been back in school but is this normal? I feel like our professor is rushing through this course. He has breezed through a chapter each class with the exception of the first class which was to discuss the syllabus. I understand there's a lot to cover but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed here. Of course we ask for the teacher to explain things when we are lost on a topic but I'm just still curious if this a normal speed to be at. I go twice a week (one lecture, one lab) and we've already gotten 2 quizzes as well. I'm frantically re-writing notes and re-reading the chapter when I can and doing all the labs in the booklet he wants us to but I'm already getting burnt out.

For anyone who has taken this class, was your pace the same as mine? Would you consider this the regular thing a professor would do?

Thanks everyone for the posts. I still feel like I'm swimming in the first 3 chapters alone but I am trying not to get my anxiety get the best of me. Unfortunately I realized note taking was my weakness. It was taking me HOURS to write notes and I find them useless really. I feel better just highlighting the important parts of my book and reviewing that. I'm definitely going to be sitting down and reading all this material again.

I feel better after reading these posts! I have had 2 lab classes so far - my 3rd class will be the lab practical covering chapters 1 through 6. I'm afraid I'll be seeing histology slides in my dreams.

You will. :D I found myself thinking, "My shower curtain looks like hyaline cartilage." Ha!

I'm in A&P II here. Yes, we covered about a chapter a week in A&P I. It was insane, but you can do it.

"It was taking me HOURS to write notes and I find them useless really. I feel better just highlighting the important parts..."

Don't waste your time doing what doesn't work for you. However, you might consider exploring different ways of taking notes... maybe highlight first, then copy the highlighted parts to make your notes. Or make a "cheat sheet"... what you would put on a single piece of paper if you were allowed one at the test... or pick a few terms that are most likely to be confused with each other and sort out their differences in two columns. There are a bazillion ways to make/use notes.

I agree with the above! I see people in class writing and writing and writing some more when the teacher is lecturing. It may sound odd but its better to sit back relax and listen... You can miss some very important points if you are trying to write down everything the instructor says and all of the power points! All that stuff is already wrote down for you in the book!

I actually write notes but its because writing is what helps me remember. So writing notes, listening to the lecture at the same time helps me remember. Everyone has their own learning style.

My advice is to stay one step ahead. Before class, read or review the chapter you will cover that day. My A&P I professor was like that too and I found it helpful to stay ahead of what she was doing. I didn't feel like I had to rush to catch up with her. Make time to study every day even if its only for 30 minutes. A lot of professors won't go into huge detail in lecture, they expect you to read the book and get into the details by yourself. I spent 3 days a week studying for 3-4 hours so that I didn't miss out an the little details that weren't covered in class. Its hard work, but getting that A was SO worth it!!!

You'll do great, good luck!

My class is almost entirely online. Supposedly it's hybrid, but our lecture is pretty much iClicker points and review. We're already on the skeletal system and it's only the second or third week of class, so I think probably you and I (OP) are at the same pace right now(:
