Anatomy flash cards?

Anyone wanna recommend some good anatomy flash cards to me? :) I'm trying to get an idea of what to buy before fall starts. My book store has Barrons flash cards, but I've been reading mixed reviews on those. Also, are coloring books helpful? If so, what kind did you use?

My A&P books had e-compainions on the book's website so I printed off the actual pages from the book, cut out, and pasted/taped the pics to an index card. I had purchased already made flashcards but they did not help because the pictures were not the same as the ones on my test. When I followed this method I was studying exactly what was going to be tested - mirror image. Some of them I would place a copy front and back of the card, then white out the labels on one side.

The book's site also had a study section with pics I could just print one with & one without labels. I printed these on card stock (cheap card stock paper).

It was a lot of work for some chapters, but made my tests so much easier. I would get help from friends sometimes and even paid someone to do the bones due to the details I needed to know. In the long run - even paying someone to print, cut, paste - it was more cost effective than the several decks of flash cards I would have had to buy.

If you are going to buy them look on amazon or ebay for a better deal.

Oh and for myself the coloring was great! I just used the same pics and made my own coloring book!

I bought the flashcards by Kaplan's to study the muscular system but for the most part, I was disappointed because it didnt have most of the muscles I needed to study. Furthermore, there is nothing like being with the lab models in person. They just don't look the same as these flashcards, so it gets confusing. I heard that the flashcards by Netters are really good though.

I never tried the coloring book... I used to hate coloring when I was younger so thats just not for me

Ok seriously.

Dont "buy" pre made flash cards!!! That takes the learning out of it!

Take it from someone who took anatomy in 6 weeks and received an A.

I made my OWN flashcards.

I used my camera phone during lab to take pix of the cat, the organs etc...

Then for lecture I looked through the notes I made, the powerpoints, the book and study guide. I made up (yes this requires a bit of creativity on your part, but its well WORTH IT!) my OWN QUESTIONS. I would do questions for everything and label what part of the body they are. We needed to know a lot of grueling information, but some that totally depends on your class.

I made my questions ranging from straightforward to multiple choice to fill-in-the-blank and true/false.

Honestly its the best way to learn and actually RETAIN THE INFORMATION!

You learn while making up questions AND by studying them.

The only con is that if your friends want to borrow your totally awesome homemade flash cards, then it wont work for them. You will most likely phrase questions and answers to your understanding as well as to what your asking. Since YOU made them most likely YOU WILL ONLY understand them.

I take pictures with my camera phone too, but I don't know how to print them out to make flashcards... I would just look at my pictures whenever I was out shopping or any spare time.

I think they are fabulous and have helped me alot! I picked these over some of the other flashcards available because the cards are organized by system as opposed to the region of the body. I saw some cards that were organized by legs, then arms, then torso, etc. That did not make any sense for my classes because my A and P classes go by system - muscles, bones, circulatory system, etc. I would highly recommend them!

I read your post and checked out the Kaplan flashcards on Amazon. There were a lot of good reviews for these cards so I decided to buy them! My first flashcard purchase for nursing school :redpinkhe. The price was awesome!

Ahhh shoot, I didn't know about the Prime membership. I was asked if I wanted the two-day free shipping but when I saw the $79 membership fee thing I declined. I'll have to go back to Amazon today and ask about that. They must ask for some kind of proof that your a student huh? I'd do that right now, but I have NS orientation today at 10:00! I'm so psyched!:anpom:

Congrats! I'm sure you will have fun at Orientation learning all about your program. I went to mine a few weeks ago and it was pretty exciting, but there was also lots of information to remember! All exciting stuff though.

As for the Amazon prime membership, they ask you for your student e-mail address. It has to be an e-mail address with .edu at the end. They will send an e-mail to you at your school address with a link and once you confirm your school e-mail address is legit, you get the free Prime membership. I love how stuff always arrives within 1-2 days with anything I order, and it is always free shipping no matter how small the order is. lol I promise I don't work for amazon. :o lol
