One of the least enjoyable types of threads I read are the ones in which LPNs and RNs go against each other, arguing about who can do what, where and why.
Yet, yesterday, I let my pride get in the way of common sense and posted on a thread that was doing just that - arguing.
I apologize to all those involved. My goal was to make our profession less divisive and I couldn't have been farther away from that goal than I was yesterday.
I'm sorry.
no, i did not write the desiderata poem/whatever you want to call it in my previous post. it's something that is hanging on my wall, that was given to me as a gift. it is one of those calligraphy reprints and states no author, but if you search "desiderata" you can see that it was originally written by a guy named max ehrmann in the 1920s but has been mass reproduced with the untrue saying it was "found in old st. paul's church, 1692" (which is what my copy says).
thread edited to conform to the tos of this site.

Wow... your first post made it sound like you were nasty and out of line in that thread, and yet I went and read through the thread, and not once were you anywhere out of line.
You weren't the one who started the thread. You are an LPN and you were perfectly within your rights to post on that thread and defend the letters after your name! =)

She was far from nasty in my opinion. She was on the defensive, I believe and I would be too if someone was degrading the letters behind my name. There was another poster whose responses were way out of line and offensive and she has yet to apologize for anything she said. Someone has to take the high road and Les did.
there will always be some controversy somewhere. just stay in your/our scope of practice and knowledge and we'll be fine. i'm an lpn who is quite comfortable starting an iv or dropping an ng tube, yet there are others(lpn and rn) who've never done it and wouldn't try....because they wouldn't want to hurt the pt. i respect that just as much as someone who can. i know that i'm not trained to hang blood or push narcs, and would always find a trained rn to do so. my mds' are co-signed by an rn. i have no problem with that, and i'm shown respect for the knowledge and skills that i do have....as i show to my co-workers. god bless us all. times are changing, and we have to change with them. thank goodness for all of us...rn, md, lpn, do, cna, pt, ot, st, pta, ota, sw, rdn.....you get the picture!!

I don't think you owe any apology-I think we all should band together and NOT respond to any posts by that particular member in the future. That's my plan and I pray for the strength and fortitude to stick to it.I really wish I sat on my hands yesterday,too-total waste of energy,IMHO....The best response to a "pot stirrer" is to ignore-Join the club-let's show solidarity.....
