One of the least enjoyable types of threads I read are the ones in which LPNs and RNs go against each other, arguing about who can do what, where and why.
Yet, yesterday, I let my pride get in the way of common sense and posted on a thread that was doing just that - arguing.
I apologize to all those involved. My goal was to make our profession less divisive and I couldn't have been farther away from that goal than I was yesterday.
I'm sorry.

We were all out of line. I'm sorry too.

I think the bottom line is that the BON has different scopes of practice in every state. Hard to comment on things when the rules are all so different.

I read that thread yesterday...most of it. As my screen name shows I am an LPN. I started to post on it, then decided not to.
It greatly saddens me that I know that there are alot of RNs who feel the way they do about LPNs.
I am a hard worker, do the best I can, and realize that my place is under the direction of an RN or a physician. I have no problem with that.
But it is disheartening to know that probably the RN I'm working under most likely feels that I am just dirt under her shoes.
Not all of them feel that way, I know, and I've worked under several, and the job I have now, we of course, have an RN DON, and we have 3 on staff RNs. Let me tell you.........I have heard comments from EVERY single one of those RNs that are demeaning {to use a description that one RN on that thread used} to LPNs.
I like all of the RNs that I work with.....they are all "good" people......but from the comments that I have heard.....I know that they think I'm just insignificant and just dirt under their shoes.
However, when a day comes that we are short of LPNs for giving medications...you can bet your bottom dollar they're looking to call in someone on their day off.....just so they don't have to get out there and pass meds.
One day soon I'm going to be going into my retirement and believe me, I will never look back. I will be so glad to get out of nursing, I can hardly wait.
And one of the main reasons is how I've been treated over the years by my supervisors.
My intent in posting this thread was to apologize for my behavior yesterday, not rehashing yesterday's thread.
Can we not rehash that thread, it was exhausting. Les, I don't believe you have anything to apologize for.

i saw this thread and decided to see what the apology was for; i couldn't even finish reading all of that thread - so many nasty, thoughtless things said! (oh, and i am not saying that to blame anyone or to start an argument - just more or less stating the obvious that things got out of hand... i'm rambling now, sorry.) anyway, just wanted to post this saying, some of the things kinda relate...
desiderata
go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
as far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
if you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
but let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
be yourself.
especially, do not feign affection.
neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.
take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
but do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
you are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
and whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
therefore be at peace with god,
whatever you conceive him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
with all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
be cheerful.
strive to be happy.
:wink2:
Thanks. :loveya:

Les, I thought you handled yourself rather well in that thread. Don't be so hard on yourself- you weren't unprofessional or rude, from what I can tell.
Thanks, BBF. Love your avatar, btw.

I agree with you Les. Throwing blows about nursing roles tends to be redundant. The thread yesterday did get out of hand with RN and LPN bashing. In the end we are a team and no matter the differences, it's really about the patient not your title.

Les- just happened to read the apology and went to view the other thread.
Just wanted to say... as a new RN I was very grateful to the two LPNs of 30 years who helped to train me, the CNAs who helped to calm my nerves and encouraged me, some of whom shared their wisdom with me since they had been caring for patients for several years, and the other RNs (ADNs and BSNs) who assisted me in learning to be a bedside nurse (and all helped me to see that I was working on a team and still had a lot to learn.... back then with my fresh new BSN self)
:)
I appreciate all of them.
with gratefulness
