Hi Everyone,

Please, does anyone know or heard anything about AUHS school of nursing? I'm thinking about applying to their program but still have a little concerns.

firstly: they are not WASC accredited, only ACICS . i dont know whether this will affect the acceptability of their BSN degree by other public universities? they are approved by the California board of registered nursing

secondly: they dont have their CCNE accrediation yet, they have a scheduled site evaluation by the CCNE Oct'11, will having a CCNE accrdt. help with the reputation and acceptance of their BSN degree by other universities, if one decides to pursue an MSN?

thirdly: they are for-profit school, so i dont really know how employers will perceive a BSN from a for-profit school? any bias?

and finally, the cost of the program is like 70-80K for 2.5 years, is the price worth it?

kinda confused :crying2:

thanks:)

Hey guys!

AUHS is relatively a new nursing school. From what I experienced so far, the school was somewhat unorganized. However, as the weeks went by, it got better. Every school have good and bad sides and I would say that AUHS has a lot of good sides.

AUHS is a small private school. You will be with your group throughout the program. They will be your family for the next 3 years (age difference doesn’t matter). The advantage there is that you and your group can help each other to survive each quarter! The feeling of being the new student won’t matter to you once you start.

The professors are great. They really want you to learn and pass the class so they encourage students to communicate with them. Classes may be overwhelming since it’s an accelerated nursing program, but the professors are there for you and there are tutorings as well. You can do anything as long as you are dedicated to your studies.

AUHS is a private Christian school, but students here are mix. The school does not discriminate other race and religion so that’s a good thing.

AUHS is a private school so it’s expensive. Tuition ranges between 80,000 to 94,000. Students apply for the sub/unsub government loans and parents apply for the PLUS loan. If the government loans don’t cover your expenses, you can always apply for a private loan. Education is a great investment so by the time you graduate as a BSN, you will be earning a lot more once you start working.

The program is in a quarter system so you will be busy for a few years, but it will be over before you know it :yeah:

Hello. I'm currently a student at AUHS. The school had already passed the CCNE examination, but it is not posted on the CCNE website at the momment. I dont understand why people are saying it is too expensive. Other nursing schools in the area with a three year nursing program cost even more than this school. It is true that there is some disorganization in the school, but it's mostly all in the gen eds. Once you get into the program, its smooth sailing. The classes will get tough, but it was to be expected for a three year Bachalor's Degree. The faculty is friendly, helpful, and down to earth.

hi, i am attending this school. i am from colton, california near san bernardino. after riverside city college, san bernardino valley college and then cal state san bernardino, i finally decided to check out nursing schools that did not have a waitlist. auhs was actually the last school on the brn webisite i decided to look into becuase i had never heard of that school and their webiste was a bit confusing. yet, contacting the admissions was helpful because they contacted me right away and scheduled an appointment for me to visit the school. the consutlation was long but i got more than what i had expected. other nursing schools were good but not as thorough. the advisor told me very specifically where i stood, the tuition, the schedule, the requirements. yes, my decision to attend the school is not cheap. the first few weeks was hectic and confusing. i had no idea where to get my books, schedules, and how and who to contact. i had to say, it is always confusing when we are new. they resently changed the policy--all students must pass ati. i was frustrated with the change because passing classes is already hard, and now i have to worry about ati too? because auhs is now ccne accredited? many of us had to take it two times with nightmares to pass a class. but after i talked to my professor, i realized that the implement of such a new policy is to secure our passing. i guess they did not require a lot before, but now the school is making changes to give students quality education. no matter what changes are to be made, what appealed to me about the school remains the same. it is auhs's mission. it is very similar to my own--to spread the god's words and to help others by giving. if your passion is truly to help others through healthcare and your mission is very similar to auhs, i suggest you look into this school to start your nursing career. again, i agreed with some posted here--it is more costly than public schools, the administration can be confusing at first, the loan may be so high that scares you, so and so, you just have to find your best match. none of the school is made to fit my needs after all.

The tuition is 94000 dose anyone know how much is covered by federal loans and grants and how much you would have to get in private loans

You need to file fafsa first.

Financial Aid and loans are usually dealt by FA office.

:)

first, auhs is not scamming. secondly, if you really want to be successful in life youwould do everything for it. so for me, i don't care how much money i am goingto spend for school. it's education. so expect that you will be spending. andeducation will be yours forever. no one could get that from you. that's yoursuccess!. don't think about the money. think about what you are going to beafter 3.5 years. for me, everything will be worth it. i am just being practicaltoo. auhs doesn't have waiting list. so, you could finish your program a lotfaster. i don't want to go to city colleges and wait. it will just waste mytime. at auhs, time will not be wasted. think about going to city colleges, howmany years are you going to wait? instead of waiting you should have justenrolled at auhs and get done with everything. then you will work and will beable to pay off for your loans. i am so happy and contented at auhs. i don'thave any regrets going here. everyone is very approachable and helpful. theyreally want you to be successful. as a whole, it is still up to you want you tobe in the future. if you do well then you will get what you want. so if youdecide to go to auhs, expect that you will be spending your 3.5 years studying.

To those that say that AUHS is not legit:

The school is registered under the California Board of Nursing. This means that it’s legit. Second, they just got their CCNE accreditation. It doesn’t say it in the website because the board still hasn’t handed out the actual piece of paper to them yet. Kind of like how you pass your driver’s license test but you don’t get your driver’s license card until later because they’re still registering you in. This means that they’re now nationally accredited. For those that want to join the military with a BSN degree, this is one of the accreditations you need to be accepted by them.

To those that say that AUHS isn’t organized:

Perhaps it’s because I’m only 3 weeks into their BSN program, but so far I find it pretty well organized. I can contact my teachers and counselor anytime. I can even set up a meeting with one of the founders of the school to propose ideas for improving the school. The people here are sincerely doing their best to help their students, and if anyone has any complaints about the school then I say that they should voice their opinions/suggestions (respectfully) to the proper authorities because that’s the only way that they’re even going to find out that there’s something wrong in the first place.

What the teachers are like:

Extremely kind, educated, and friendly. None of my teachers have a superiority complex or an attitude problem. I can easily meet with them anytime, online or in person, and ask questions. Trust me, they won’t get mad if you do. They actually make time for you and reply within a reasonable time.

What the classes are like:

Challenging. It’s mostly because there’s A LOT of reading involved. Personally, I don’t think that the nursing courses are hard versus other majors (ex. Physics, architecture, engineering, etc). The only thing that makes it difficult is that there’s A LOT of reading and information to process within a week’s time (because AUHS runs on a quarter system). This means that there’s a quiz at least every class meeting. Since I’m a slow reader, this gets tough. However, if you actually do the things that your professors tell you and study the NCLEX questions on the side, then you should be fine. You can’t blame your teachers if you don’t do the work yourself. It’s like blaming your gym trainer for not getting your 6-pack because you decided not to do the gut busting work yourself. Prepare yourself for some eyestrains.

Hi everyone.

I just started my education at AUHS about 5 weeks ago. Each quarter is 11 weeks long. The cost of per unit is expensive and the total from the beginning without having taken your general education will add up to more than $100,000.00 but most private schools for BSN programs are about that range. They offer a discount if you personally know a nurse. If you have taken some GEs outside the school like I have then it will reduce the cost significantly. But be aware that some classes take forever to get into and time is money. My math, English and chemistry classes have expired at the time and I took a CLEP test for math and English to exempt them. I passed only my English and now I'm only have to take chemistry and math to transition into the nursing this coming fall.

The staff and students are very friendly. The students in the classes ahead of me tell me to be sure to be ready for a busy schedule. They say it is challenging, but that's what I look forward to. We need to be ready to be nurses in the working field. Hospital and patients want and need competent nurses. I believe this school will be able to produce these kinds of nurses.

Everyone has their own way to go about where and how they get their education. This school offers the chance to check them out before committing to join so come and check out the open house sessions. They tell you straight out that, "if your aren't ready to work hard and commit, don't apply." You have to want to work and to be ready, otherwise you're just wasting your time and money. Think hard before you make a decision and keep an open mind for AUHS.

Last thing I wanted to mention is how each class in the nursing program are put into cohorts. Once you're in your own cohort, you guys become a family. I seen and spoken with some of the nursing students and they all helped each other to get through all their courses. And they all seem to have close bonds with each other.

So take the time to look over the AUHS site and make an appointment to come visit the school. The admissions are friendly, fast and efficient. Go ahead and give a call or e-mail them. They will give you a response. Also check out outside information on the school like the NCLEX passing rate and such. Good luck to you future nurses, to which ever school you may attend.

for those thatmight consider auhs:

this is a fairly new nursing school. it's not as popular as some of the nursingschool out there but i do recommend for those that are interested into a careerof nursing to check out the facility and attend their info session. it helps toget some information before deciding which nursing school is best for you.

from my experience:

i went to three nursing info sessions from different schools in the past year.some are straight forward about what the school can offer but some actuallysugar coat lot of the information. it helps to outweigh some of the pros andcons before deciding which school to apply. for instances, the school's nclexrate, the certification, and financial aids are just some of the basic informationto jog down before deciding what school is best for you.

i've been with auhs for about 6 month now, so far i have to say i'm enjoying myexperience. the prof's are hard but it should be a standard for all nursingschools. they are very resourceful and helpful if you have any questions.

Hey there.

You'll be happy to here that the school has been recently accredited. Please listen to Haley1007's advise though. Come and visit the school and speak with the student's about their situation and experiences. Good luck future nurses!

:heartbeat Hello All,

I write this review to hopefully help you get an inside look on how it is to be a student at the school. I am a Gen. Ed student which means that I am taking all my pre-requisite classes at AUHS then transfering to there nursing program.

The classes are Challenging, but I don't feel alone. The professors will take the time after lecture to review anything in details to help you understand the material. There is tutoring available for anybody that needs it (free/ no additional cost).

The one advise I can give you is LISTEN to the advice of Addmissions there are on your side and all their recomendations are to HELP!! you.
