American Mobile

Published

Hi all,

I am in touch with American Mobile to begin my adventure in travel nursing. Has anybody worked with this company? What have your experiences been like with them? Give me the good, bad, and ugly!

Thank you in advance!

I know this is a dated thread, but just wanted to post that I am currently on assignment with this company and have no complaints thus far. I really like my recruiter (referred to me by a former coworker who started travel nursing before me) and everyone else that I have dealt with so far in terms of compliance and timekeeping has been great. The onsite representatives are professional and courteous and want to help you acclimate to the facility. I chose AMN because they are exclusive vendors to the hospital where I really wanted to work. My pay is excellent, much more than what I used to get as staff. I was nervous about all the negative reviews before I signed up, but I have to say I have had nothing but good experiences so far.

I am six weeks into my first assignment with American Mobile. I can't really say anything about the entity, but the people I communicate with (recruiter, quality analyst and payroll) are very friendly, return calls/emails quickly and give clear information. I was in a bad position when I first arrived at my facility and they quickly worked with management to fix the issue. They're exclusive with the facility I'm currently at. I think the team you're working with makes a huge difference.

Give it more time and you'll hate AMN like every other traveler ends up doing. And when you move to different companies you'll realize you've been short changed by AMN. Good luck. Keep your options open in case they bail on you.

There's no need to be condescending. I'm not marrying them. This recruiter came recommended from a friend who traveled with her for a year. I wanted to travel to this particular hospital and AM is exclusive with them. I've heard plenty of bad things, but so far my experience has been positive.

Having options is always good, no matter the agency. AM does have lots of loyal travelers who have never worked for anyone else. It is seldom that you see them on traveler forums though, they have no interest in other people's experiences (like a happily married couple).

What is also true is that larger agencies have more unhappy travelers just because they are bigger. So we are much more likely to hear about travelers with issues from larger agencies than small agencies. It doesn't mean that much as people are much more likely to comment on bad experiences than to freely volunteer how great an agency is.

And as I have said many times, it is all about good communication with your recruiter. The brand is much less important. That is exactly what flexiseal's bad experience boils down to as well.

On another topic, AM does have a number of contracts where they operate as the vendor manager. You can still work at those hospitals for other agencies, surprisely often at better pay, but it is true that AM travelers will get first crack at filling assignments.

Yes, I don't plan on being a travel nurse forever, only until I decide that I want to specialize in another area of nursing. WHERE I get to go is more important in travel nursing, and if AMN gives me first crack at these sites, even better. As long as I am compensated comfortably I am not complaining, and being compensated better than where I was before is also a plus. I don't listen to opinions from the likes of people like flexiseal, they don't define what my individual experiences will be.

I've done a few assignments with them, on one now, and have had no issues. Pay is similar to other companies.

Hey could you please tell me more about AMN Im interesting in traveling in the next month or two.

I am on assignment with them currently. I am happy with my pay package, you really have to do the math though. If someone is getting housing that would cost $600/month and I am getting a $2000 stipend, spending $400/month, I win even if I make a little less an hour. I have not met anyone making more at this facility yet. They have travelers from a wide variety of places.

I picked a bigger travel company because I want them to have their stuff together. I want my check deposited when its supposed to and someone to answer the phone when I call them. I want assignments to be plentiful and readily available when I want them to be. Bigger companies have those options. So far AMN has lived up to my expectations and I am submitting for another assignment now.

I love when I hear someone talk bad about AMN then talk about how good NurseRX is.... lol

Thank you so much for the feedback!! Im excited! cant wait to start

Any problem I've had has been promptly and professionally handled.

During my last assignment, I was promised linens and housewares for the housing. It turns out the vendor in the small town did not have that capability, so AMN reimbursed me the cost of purchasing everything- sheets, towels, dishes, etc- to the tune of nearly $600. All of those purchases were mine to keep after the assignment, so packing became far less difficult.

I'd think packing would be more difficult with all that extra stuff!
