america bails out on hmos
health maintenance organizations, known for their low-cost medical care, were all the rage just 10 years ago. today consumers are bailing out of hmos in record numbers as their costs have risen faster than high-deductible health-insurance plans that offer more doctor choices and services.

yess i remember
hmo came into being because the docs were milking the system for all it was worth, requesting unneeded labs from labs that they had a financial interest in, taking kickbacks from pharmacitical companies ordering ot, pt etc whether the pt could benefit or not
so they changed...now we are getting shafted by someone else being at the bottom of the food chain never changes..only the faces of the sharks

The thing that has always scared me about managed care is that the old system rewarded for over-treating patients, which is wasteful and bad, but the newer system rewards doctors, hospitals, etc., for UNDER-treating patients.

I wish that we Americans didn't have to be so dependant on employers for health insurance. And I hope our new congress cracks down on the health insurance industry.

The funny thing is that everyone hates managed care but if we ever get unlucky enough to get universal healthcare then it will all be managed care. So be careful what you wish for.
