we are all on these jobs for a reason. only we know why we accepted these jobs. most of these patients we take care of was once like us. healthy enough to take care of ourselves.
some of us see different patients every single day. some of us see the same patients every day.
remember, as time go on and the days, months and years go by we will not remember every single patient that we dealt with because we have seen so many faces come and go. but i can bet you that the patients will remember us because we are only one person. they will definitely remember us especially if we purposely mistreated them in any way.
sure, we can't save the world but it doesn't cost a cent to be kind to people the way we would love to be treated also.
most of the time, we as human beings know when someone is being truly kind, loving and caring to us and when it is truly coming from the heart.
what we do to others will surely come back to us before we close our eyes for the last time. i don't expect everyone to agree with me but i truly believe this from my heart.
loving my job because i love caring for people :1luvu:

this is what i am talking about!!! and i believe all that you say here. what nurses do matters, even though at times it probably doesn't seem so. i keep thinking of how i would want my family cared for, my husband, my parents, my sister and realize that most patients and their families are scared and don't really know what is going on. they need kindness and compassion and understanding. 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you' - we know how we would want to be treated if the person in the bed were us.

Amen! Thank you for that post!
Nursing is NOT meds, charts, and tasks. (although that is part of it)
Nursing IS caring for people. Too many seem to forget their primary duty.
God bless and keep you.

Couldn't agree with you more, Val. :)
Thanx for the uplifting reminder.
We do need these reminders every now and then, when our spirits sink low and our bodies are tired.
Nice job.

the only difference between our patients, especially the elderly, and us...... they got there before us!

good thought provoking thread. something to remember the next time i take care of someone whose personal habits or lifestyle led them to be my patient in the first place.
