I don't mind using outside sources to develop a better understanding of the material, but I don't want it to be my primary way of learning. Although WGU's program fits my current lifestyle better, Chamberlain would be cheaper for me. By about $10k, if everything comes out correct with transfer credits and tuition. I'm still debating between the two though.
Do you connect with any of the other students in your cohort? Also, have you been to any clinical sites since you've been in the program?
Sounds like you are leaning towards Chamberlain? To be honest, after I speak to the counselor tommorow and I like the price/scholarship options, I may end up there. I would love to go straight for my BSN vs the longer ADN track but I understand that life happens. They also seem to have a solid simulation clinic and from what I heard during the ACC applicant meeting, the State of Texas is requiring simulations more due to lack of clinical sites.
Do you have any suggestions for me for what questions to ask tomorrow?

Ha, I can’t think of anything specific that you’re not already curious about. When I did the tour, the advisor showed me their lab simulation center, and it was very astounding. It looked exactly like a cut from a hospital room, patient mannequin lying on the bed. There was a black window inside the room, where the professor sat watching the students and controlling the mannequin, I think? Some students were actually doing a lab simulation when I was there.
I would focus on the price/transfer credit questions. You want as many of those classes transferred because their tuition is HIGH.

And yes, for the most part I am leaning towards Chamberlain. I’m not sure how everything will work out with my job so I will manage it if I can—but I’ll choose WGU if I have no other option.

I have heard that some schools will allow students to take the LVN challenge exams after their first semester in a nursing program. Does anyone know if this is true for ACC ADN and what the process is like? I am currently a CNA if that helps.
I think the BON allows you to sit for the exam regardless of what program you’re in. As long as you’ve been I that program for the first semester.
How was your visit to Chamberlain?

OK thanks. It was OK. The cost breakdown was still expensive but more doable. I think God will make the decision for me.
Hope everyone is holding up during this waiting.

I was #8 on the alternate list and ended up making it last round. But unfortunately my grandmother passed and I had to decline. I’m seriously hoping I get in this time! Good luck to you as well!!

I have a page on facebook that's geared towards helping my peers make through prerequisites and nursing school. I give away pdf textbooks and test banks etc. Study guides etc. If you'd like an invite just send your facebook name and ill get you in.. I promise it is totally worth it.
Hi,
Are you still doing nursing textbook/test/study guides giveaways? Unfortunately, I do not have FB (or any other social media).

Oh WOW!, so sorry for your loss. That must’ve been hard to decline. What were your stats, if you don’t mind me asking? Also, are you applying to any other schools this time around?

Yes. It was very difficult. I got into both ACC and COM. I applied to both again and San Jac this time. Let’s see... I’m not really sure my GPA. I completed:
Chemistry - A, stats - A, AP1 - C, AP2 - A. Microbiology - B. Psych - C. Biology - A. Lifespan - A. Comp 1 and 2 with an A.
My HESI score was a 86%. I’ve only taken it once. I had 90% or higher on math and reading. 80% range for the other categories, and a 77% on AP section. An 880 on the critical thinking section too.
I also got an extra point for being an EMT and working for Memorial Hermann Hospital. And I have an Associates Degree from San Jac.
Hope this helps!

Yeah, you have really good stats. I’m sure if you could get in the first time, you can get in again. Obviously they liked your stuff. It wasn’t possible to defer the admission? I know some programs let you do that. You have to write a letter to the dean explaining your situation. Something of the sorts.
