Alternatives to becoming an international pinoy RN

The issues I see happening is most countries require some experience anything from 1 year onwards, also for countries within the EU the requirement is employ from own country first then the EU before the rest of the world. I can understand people going into a profession to enhance their lives and their families but in a country that over supplies it becomes a catch 22. There are too many nurses for too few jobs therefore can not gain experience and experience is needed for most countries. We are also seeing some BON/BRN's changing to requiring experience and more may follow.

I think what you posted is the real problem of most of the Filipino nurses. They want to go abroad as soon as possible. I wonder if they think what do they want in their career. Questions like what field of nursing do they want to specialize, what preparation will they do in order for hospitals to hire or attract them, etc. These questions are mostly neglected and suddenly jumping to major plans of going abroad.

As of the moment, many countries require the 2 years experience also Middle East but some still accept without experience especially if you have contacts with hospitals over there.

I understand what you feel. The problem was not only point out by the first poster but same as the last. After graduation, most of us graduates would really want to work in a hospital and have clinical experience. But the problem is, there are no work available with so many nurses unemployed and hospitals can't afford to hire them. So due to this, they prefer to work abroad to look for work and since most of the hospitals abroad already prefers clinical experience, there's no way they can be hired. Some also wants to take the shortcut and earn money faster. Problems... problems... problems.... For me, we are the problems. We always see the negative side of things. If we can't find work, we blame someone else. There are always way and this is not the time for blaming. If they have fault, then make it a point to make things right... How? Be patient with the answer....

Does anyone know of any agency here in the Philippines that sends nurses to US on immigrant visa even without experience? I know of one actually SENTOSA but due to its history before I am hesitant to join them. But I am seriously contemplating it and doing my own reading and research. Besides this forum is there any other reliable websites to get this needed information?

I am one of those who decided to finish all the exams (NCLEX, IELTS) first then get the experience. My dilemna now is there are just no nursing jobs available in the Metro, its hard to find one.

I really dont mind working here first while waiting for the immigrant visa even if it will take long. Its okay and its not that bad even if we Filipino nurses are paid very low in our own country, in a way its a form of service on our part. So its okay really but hopefully not just forever. Its okay now that Im single and all but if one decides to raise a family its just not enough here and I guess we all know that..

I think you will find most agencies will require some years of experience. This also happens in the UK when nurses approach agencies for the US at least 2 years is required.

Thank you silverdragon for the quick reply. Yes most agencies require such experience. But since I dont have that now Im still hoping to find agencies that don't like as I said Sentosa they don't strictly require that since their facilities in the US are nursing homes and not tertiary hospitals.

Anybody else who have any idea? Wonder which thread here has topics regarding that. Thank you everyone. Wishing us the best of luck to our careers!

What you need to think about is even if you find an agency/employer now with the current processing times of 3-5 years they can more or less expect you to gain experience. I do know how hard it is to find a job but you may even want to consider another country, however is catch 22 as a lot of countries expect experience and wouldn't be surprised if the US go that route due to retrogression and also with the economic problems that the US is going through expect to see delays get longer

You are going to be looking at minimum of a five year wait for a chance at a green card. If one does not have any experience in that time, they are going to have major issues trying to get thru the interview with the US Embasy, let alone fine placement in a facility when the time comes.

Nursing homes require that you be legally responsible for more than 40 patients per shift, without experience when you start, you are only asking for trouble.

How in the world are you going to function without the experience? Even a US nurse that has been away from the bedside for five years has trouble getting hired.

I would focus on going to another country first and actually get some work experience. Do not think that the US is going to open up for years and years, especially with the mess that our economy is in now.

I saw that news on cable TV here in Daly City. If you listened carefully to the news report, it states that Canada has 10,000 jobs available...but, not all of those jobs are immediately available. And not all of those jobs will go to Filipinos, Canada is hiring globally. And it was not mentioned in the report whether Filipino nurses are being recruited as well. I suspect that those job requests from Canadian businesses were posted BEFORE the financial crisis that hit Wall Street happened, and this crisis is spreading like wildfire in many financial centers around the world. Since the Canadian economy is closely intertwined with that of the United States' economy, I think Canada will be greatly affected by this financial crisis.

I have been to both coasts of Canada on vacation and there is no denying that many American companies and businesses are present in Canada. There is a saying, when America sneezes, Canada catches a cold. Meaning, a minor economic downturn in the U.S. becomes magnified in Canada. This latest financial crisis is NO minor economic downturn. When Canadian businesses start to retrench, foreigners will be the first to be laid off and sent back home.

Every Filipino nurse wishing to work abroad needs a lot of patience because the wait could be a very long time given that there are hundreds of thousands of unemployed Filipino nurses looking for the same jobs. Meanwhile, the longer you are unemployed and with no work experience, the less likely you are going to be hired by foreign recruiters once they start hiring Filipino nurses once again.

I know, that sucks.

We really really have to be patient in getting hired here in the Philippines if we target to work in other countries. As for me, I just attend seminars and workshops, even with pay (thanks to my wonderful parents who are willing to pay for it!), to enhance my knowledge and skills more while waiting for my slot in a hospital.

We entered this nursing world, then I guess we should just accept the reality. All we have to do is to have patience and perseverance.
