Why hello there, fellow students!
You can call me Cedeno, and I'll be applying for the MDC nursing program for fall 2013! I've been excited for awhile now, especially since MDC (and all its red tape) has delayed my intended apply date twice (originally Fall 2012, then Spring 2013). Ah, but no worries!
Right now I'm taking my last bit of classes before applying: A&P 2 w/lab, Micro, and Critical Thinking/Ethics. I've seen many nursing students this semester-- which is wonderful-- but at the same time I think two words when I meet another pre-nursing student: "Awesome! " and "Competition!
" (Not seriously, but in a jokey kind of way.)
Once admitted, I'd love to form a study group. Size isn't quite so much the priority as cohesiveness is (though size counts!). I'd love study mates who like to utilize chats like Google talk, Skype, Kik, etc. for times when perhaps we'd like to study something but cannot make it to a physical location.
I'm a visual and auditory learner, so I love highlighters, dry-erase boards, and discussing questions together to ensure everyone understands rather than one person offering up the answer and others just accepting it without knowing.
Ah! I've managed to turn this into an ad for study mates! I'm just excited and hope there are other potential classmates here on AN. Please pop in and say hello! Let's talk GPAs, TEAS scores, whatever!
....Also if you take the TEAS twice is it highest score used or last test taken?
GOOD LUCK!
Stats:
Expected final science GPA: 3.67
TEAS score: n/a
Yup! Same here...I come back every few hours to check this and it just makes me more nervous. I'm going crazy here!
@ gavalia - my score is just a point less than yours and I've heard that we are still in the safe range, for second round emails....but we just honestly dont know, all depends on the applicant pool...good luck!
Thanks Lexibabi. I hope this year is not going to be an exception of the last one. In the last fall aplication, a girls enter with 80.
What is your score? Take care.
Thank Tati.lara75. So, you mean that you have 79?
When you said: I've heard that we are still in the safe range, for second round emails; did you mean that Does 80 overall score go for second round emails?
Good luck to everybody.
@yesidid-thanks for responding! I don't feel so "lonely" anymore. There are 78 seats for the transitional program, 48 face to face and 30 online and they give you a choice (first come, first serve is my guess)
I'm so grateful for all of you here, I would have gone insane without this thread!!! At Least it helps to let feelings out and also to be informed.
My score is 81.6% but I'm still going nuts!
@bsartor- tomorrow is 5 weeks from application deadline, 6 weeks on the 12th! I can't sleep!!!!
Hi, I am applying to the AO program. Do you happen to know what was the average score for the students in your current AO batch? Is it possible to have a part time job?? Maybe 15-20 hours a week? on a scale of 1-10 how intense would you say the program is? Were able to obtain enough financial aid to cover everything?
I really do not know what the average score for our batch.
As for holding a job, there were a few students that decided to work part time during the program that I know of. One failed out of the first "semester" and the other had to quit the job. Our semesters are a tad different from everyone else because of the program. For example, this week is finals for us for the second rounds of classes. Here is example of what the year looks like for AO:
Jan-mid March: Fundamentals Theory, Fundamentals Skills Lab, Fundamentals Clinics, Pharmacology, Health Assessment.
mid-march to now:
Med Surge theory, Med Surge Skills Lab, Med Surge Clinics, Pharmacology II
June-1st week of Aug:
Community Health, OB theory, OB clinics, Pedi theory, Pedi clinics
aug to december: I have not scheduled yet but we have the following left: Psych, Advance Med Surge, and Leadership
I am a mother of two and when I started in January my son was 5 months old. I feel like that is a part time job in itself! Is it intense? OF COURSE. Is it hard? DEFINITELY. Is it impossible to do while holding a part time job? NOPE. Would I recommend working? ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Everyone in here is wanting, hoping, and yearning to get in to a program. Why after all of this hard work and time invested to make it in the program, would you risk failing out? Trust me, money is definitely tight but I CAN NOT afford to fail and have to retake any class. That would postpone my graduation date and set me back financially further. (ok, ok I'll get off my soap box.) This is just my personal opinion.
On a side note, one of my professor have mentioned that after we pass Med Surge things should really ease up. Med Surge is one of the hardest class. We picked up 5 students from the Aug AO group who did not pass and the previous class picked up 14 students. Having said that, holding a part time job is a possibility once we get over this hump. If you could, at least make plans to be 100% financially really until this point.
My first semester tuition statement was roughly $2800, plus uniforms and books. This is the most expensive portion of the program. My student loans did cover this.
Hope this helps!
