Why hello there, fellow students!
You can call me Cedeno, and I'll be applying for the MDC nursing program for fall 2013! I've been excited for awhile now, especially since MDC (and all its red tape) has delayed my intended apply date twice (originally Fall 2012, then Spring 2013). Ah, but no worries!
Right now I'm taking my last bit of classes before applying: A&P 2 w/lab, Micro, and Critical Thinking/Ethics. I've seen many nursing students this semester-- which is wonderful-- but at the same time I think two words when I meet another pre-nursing student: "Awesome! " and "Competition!
" (Not seriously, but in a jokey kind of way.)
Once admitted, I'd love to form a study group. Size isn't quite so much the priority as cohesiveness is (though size counts!). I'd love study mates who like to utilize chats like Google talk, Skype, Kik, etc. for times when perhaps we'd like to study something but cannot make it to a physical location.
I'm a visual and auditory learner, so I love highlighters, dry-erase boards, and discussing questions together to ensure everyone understands rather than one person offering up the answer and others just accepting it without knowing.
Ah! I've managed to turn this into an ad for study mates! I'm just excited and hope there are other potential classmates here on AN. Please pop in and say hello! Let's talk GPAs, TEAS scores, whatever!
....Also if you take the TEAS twice is it highest score used or last test taken?
GOOD LUCK!
Stats:
Expected final science GPA: 3.67
TEAS score: n/a
@dia Haven't heard anything back.
I'm also in the appeals process. I switched majors, so I have excess credits. They denied me financial aid until the end of the Spring semester. They approved me and put me on probation, and then denied me again. So I have to wait until I get my acceptance letter (hopefully) and turn that in along with another appeal. Financial aid has been somewhat of a headache with MDC! I didn't have nowhere near as hard a time at another school I attended. But hopefully everything works out!
Mary- sounds like a busy schedule! Good for you if you can juggle everything!
Marilyn - I'm in the same boat with financial aid. Hoping to turn in my appeal with an acceptance letter.
Dayli - my friends who get financial aid always have extra money after they pay for their classes, but I've never gotten it myself. I plan to go to the financial aid office within the next week so I can bring it up with them and let you know what they say.
Yikes! @tati.lara75 well if we have to go through the appeals process I hope it doesn't take too long to return with our awarded amounts. I know the lady told me that the loan app is available on June 17th and I need to know ASAP so I can make other arrangements if that amount is not awarded. Let the stress begin lol
When I was starting my prereq's, I had to submit a letter of appeal to get financial aid since I already have a bachelor's. I just wrote why I wanted to return to school and was approved pretty quickly. The money didn't come through until about mid-semester but they have a short term loan option that pays for half of your tuition and you pay the other half out of pocket. Then when the money comes, it automatically pays off your loan and you get reimbursed the cash that you paid upfront in the beginning. I've heard horror stories about financial aid but the process was actually pretty smooth for me!
I have to do the same thing because this is my 2nd degree major. Financial Aid are requesting an "Individualized Educational Plan" (IEP) along with "Standards of Academic Progress" Appeal Letter. The IEP will have to be done by an advisor after we are accepted into the program. This sucks since we don't know how long the appeal is really going to take. I lost my job over a year ago so finances has been very tight for my husband and I. I hope & pray this whole process will not take so long. Best advice; as soon as the acceptance letter are received we should go see an advisor to see how soon they can get us the IEP. Anxiously awaiting to hear from MDC! :||

@ Carissa, I'm a Licensed Practical Nurse and work for Hospice, I will be working 3 nights, 12 hour shifts. I have a lot of vacation time and my supervisors are pretty flexible, so I'm planning to use vacation time when stressed or testing time. I think I can make it!
