Alright, I'll start! MDC Fall 2013

Published

Why hello there, fellow students!

You can call me Cedeno, and I'll be applying for the MDC nursing program for fall 2013! I've been excited for awhile now, especially since MDC (and all its red tape) has delayed my intended apply date twice (originally Fall 2012, then Spring 2013). Ah, but no worries!

Right now I'm taking my last bit of classes before applying: A&P 2 w/lab, Micro, and Critical Thinking/Ethics. I've seen many nursing students this semester-- which is wonderful-- but at the same time I think two words when I meet another pre-nursing student: "Awesome! :x3: " and "Competition! :wideyed: " (Not seriously, but in a jokey kind of way.)

Once admitted, I'd love to form a study group. Size isn't quite so much the priority as cohesiveness is (though size counts!). I'd love study mates who like to utilize chats like Google talk, Skype, Kik, etc. for times when perhaps we'd like to study something but cannot make it to a physical location.

I'm a visual and auditory learner, so I love highlighters, dry-erase boards, and discussing questions together to ensure everyone understands rather than one person offering up the answer and others just accepting it without knowing.

Ah! I've managed to turn this into an ad for study mates! :o I'm just excited and hope there are other potential classmates here on AN. Please pop in and say hello! Let's talk GPAs, TEAS scores, whatever!

....Also if you take the TEAS twice is it highest score used or last test taken?

GOOD LUCK! :cat:

Stats:

Expected final science GPA: 3.67

TEAS score: n/a

The anxiety was killing me so I just went MDC to talk to an advisor. At first I got one of the temporary advisors then I spoke to **** (she is the advisor whose door is the last on the left side of the advising center). She is wonderful! I tried to find out new info but she basically said the same thing that a PP said. She said first round emails should go out next week. They are trying to finish evaluating everyone's transcripts.

jakagi- I'm sorry to hear about your job. I'm in a similar situation and I am relying on my husband for everything right now. I miss not making my own money and contributing to our family.

@bsartor thanks for the info brandi! **** is a great advisor and that gives me more hope to expect emails next week. I'm also in a similar situation and counting on my boyfriend financially. Let's all hang in there guys! We are almost there and before we know it this wait will be over!

This is what I remember from what the advisor told me. He told me that there was no point in doing an IEP if you were still in pre-select because in the IEP it would show that all your classes are completed and that would practically invalidate your appeal. Said I should wait until orientation is over and I am fully admitted into the program (and shows all the classes I have to do for my degree) before I submit an appeal. I mean he could be wrong and I guess you don't really lose much by turning one in before you are formally admitted but what he said also does make sense. Only bad thing is that orientation isn't until July, but still falls in the 4-6 week range before school starts.

Marilyn- that's a good point and makes sense. They would still give everyone time.

I forgot to mention that I went to the bookstore and they still haven't received the updated book list. Also, supposedly the uniforms are green with white tops for clinicals and green tops for classes. Just thought I would share. Wish I had more exciting news.....

Something new?????

@bsartor - I spoke to **** as well when I put in my application! She was so helpful. I have her business card on my desk and have sent her a few emails over the months. She is definitely the woman you want to see if you have questions!

Thanks carisahallo I am planning to go too.

Carissa- that was a good idea to get her business card. She's 10x more helpful than anyone else that I have spoken to.

I can't stay away from this thread today! I'm so so anxious to hear some news, any kind of news. :cat:

**** is the best advisor!!! She's so honest, transparent and down to earth! Best of all always hassle smile! I motion we give her a nice basket once we're admitted, it seems she's helped us all!

***Without hassle and a smile!

I'm so nervous! I think once we all get in we should all get together for coffee or something. You know, just to all share in our excitement! Whose with me?.
