Why hello there, fellow students!
You can call me Cedeno, and I'll be applying for the MDC nursing program for fall 2013! I've been excited for awhile now, especially since MDC (and all its red tape) has delayed my intended apply date twice (originally Fall 2012, then Spring 2013). Ah, but no worries!
Right now I'm taking my last bit of classes before applying: A&P 2 w/lab, Micro, and Critical Thinking/Ethics. I've seen many nursing students this semester-- which is wonderful-- but at the same time I think two words when I meet another pre-nursing student: "Awesome! " and "Competition!
" (Not seriously, but in a jokey kind of way.)
Once admitted, I'd love to form a study group. Size isn't quite so much the priority as cohesiveness is (though size counts!). I'd love study mates who like to utilize chats like Google talk, Skype, Kik, etc. for times when perhaps we'd like to study something but cannot make it to a physical location.
I'm a visual and auditory learner, so I love highlighters, dry-erase boards, and discussing questions together to ensure everyone understands rather than one person offering up the answer and others just accepting it without knowing.
Ah! I've managed to turn this into an ad for study mates! I'm just excited and hope there are other potential classmates here on AN. Please pop in and say hello! Let's talk GPAs, TEAS scores, whatever!
....Also if you take the TEAS twice is it highest score used or last test taken?
GOOD LUCK!
Stats:
Expected final science GPA: 3.67
TEAS score: n/a
You aren't alone. I applied for the Transitional program with the intention of choosing the online option. My overall score is 84. I am just watching and waiting for the acceptance letter. I looked around for a thread for transitional students but most of the comments are mixed in with the general threads.
Hi!
I'm currently in the AO program at Miami Dade :). I started in January and will be did in December. Yay! As I read through your post, it brings me back to last September when I was so nervous and going through this forum like a mad women. If you guys have any questions I would be happy to answer them for you. Keep in mind, I am limited to info in the AO program.
When I was waiting my acceptance letter, it felt like a lifetime before anything appeared. I did not received my email until the second rounds of letters came out. That was about 15 days after the first.
Someone from North Broward asked about transportation options, there are several people who lives really far north that takes the Tri-rail to the Metro Rail and gets dropped off about a block from the school. I believe the monthly cost is $70.
@itsmarie Hi maybe you can confirm something for me. I have heard that we could get away with wearing plain white scrubs to clinical sites without having to buy those expensive MDC tops. I've also heard that students can also get away with wearing any plain white lab coat. Is there any truth to this? And could you tell me about what type/color shoes we would need. Thank you
Uniform policy enforcement really depends on your professor. For clinics, I had a professor that was straight from the book. She visually check each student and if you were not in correct uniform (white MDC scrub top, ugly hunter cargo bottoms, and ALL WHITE shoes), you were asked to leave. In my next clinic, the professor was ok with us wearing the white MDC top with whatever hunter bottoms. I have classmates that have the white shoes with grey or silver insignias on them. I went on the safe route and just bought solid white shoes. As far as the lab coat is concern, I have only worn mine in the skills lab at school. It could be plain white.
When I started the program, any hunter green scrub top was fine. However, we all received an email from the dean emphasizing the uniform policy. Since then everyone in my class started to adhere to it since. Personally, I still wear my flare leg bottoms because the ones in the bookstore is completely unflattering on my body type. I think that would be your call. Another thing, we could wear whatever shoes we like on class days.
The brand of scrubs for MDC is called "WHITE SWAN" color is hunter. You can find the pants cheaper online but shipping cost might kill the deal.
Hope this helps!

Hi, I am applying to the AO program. Do you happen to know what was the average score for the students in your current AO batch? Is it possible to have a part time job?? Maybe 15-20 hours a week? on a scale of 1-10 how intense would you say the program is? Were able to obtain enough financial aid to cover everything?

@ Lexi, I spoke to an advisor at the medical campus, one that tells you how it's, not the young ones that go by the book and on top of that are lazy that for them is better to brush you off, this particular one actually not only told me but showed me their memos with real numbers! She even told me I'm lucky if I get into generic but that I have a good chance for Transitional!!! Im nervous but still have faith and hope!
