Alright, I'll start! MDC Fall 2013

Published

Why hello there, fellow students!

You can call me Cedeno, and I'll be applying for the MDC nursing program for fall 2013! I've been excited for awhile now, especially since MDC (and all its red tape) has delayed my intended apply date twice (originally Fall 2012, then Spring 2013). Ah, but no worries!

Right now I'm taking my last bit of classes before applying: A&P 2 w/lab, Micro, and Critical Thinking/Ethics. I've seen many nursing students this semester-- which is wonderful-- but at the same time I think two words when I meet another pre-nursing student: "Awesome! :x3: " and "Competition! :wideyed: " (Not seriously, but in a jokey kind of way.)

Once admitted, I'd love to form a study group. Size isn't quite so much the priority as cohesiveness is (though size counts!). I'd love study mates who like to utilize chats like Google talk, Skype, Kik, etc. for times when perhaps we'd like to study something but cannot make it to a physical location.

I'm a visual and auditory learner, so I love highlighters, dry-erase boards, and discussing questions together to ensure everyone understands rather than one person offering up the answer and others just accepting it without knowing.

Ah! I've managed to turn this into an ad for study mates! :o I'm just excited and hope there are other potential classmates here on AN. Please pop in and say hello! Let's talk GPAs, TEAS scores, whatever!

....Also if you take the TEAS twice is it highest score used or last test taken?

GOOD LUCK! :cat:

Stats:

Expected final science GPA: 3.67

TEAS score: n/a

Hey, that would be great if you would like to call her for more info. Her name is Brenda and she is hoping to get more phone calls so she can get a class together. If anyone is interested in taking the AHA class in Key Largo, feel free to give her a ring. (305) 393-0930. A Wednesday in mid-June would work fine for me as well. I would prefer the afternoon, but can do a.m. if need be.

How exciting! Thanks for all of the info, guys! If you don't mind me asking, where have you gotten the dates for the orientation and everything? And the CPR requirements and any other requirements we need before starting the program (if accepted, of course). I haven't done much research other than applying and I know I need to get on the ball with everything! Is the information posted on campus, or on their website? I haven't had any classes for 3 semesters, so I haven't been to the campus!

Thanks guys, good luck to all! :)

I have another silly question. For the FT program, it's 4 semesters. Does that include a summer term? So a year and 1/2?

Disregard my first questions! I found the info at http://www.mdc.edu/main/nursingadmit/medicalgenericft.aspx :)

I spoke to Brenda about the CPR class. She said she holds the class at 6:30 PM on Wednesday evenings at 98600 Overseas Highway Key Largo, FL 33037. The class lasts about 4 hours. She cannot do it any cheaper than $55 because the total amount is sent to AHA; she is not making a dime! She also confirmed that this is the correct class to meet MDC's requirement. I am able to do it on June 5 or the 12. Let me know if anyone wants to go on one of these dates so we can make the 2 person minimum!

@Jessy - Yes, the program is 4 semesters including the summer. August 2013-December 2014.

Okay so I've been lurking, but resisting posting because I didn't want to get myself all worked up too early. But now that it's June, I can't hold out any longer! My GPA is 3.4 (I think) and TEAS 77. I feel like it could go either way for me, so I'm extra nervous! I applied for generic FT and AO for the fall. Good luck everyone!

You're overall score is 80.2 which is pretty good (see previous semesters and the high 70s were getting in during the last round of emails). Well welcome to the thread, you will now compulsively check this site to see if there is any information that will somehow magically let you know you are in. :sarcastic:

Ain't that the truth. I got the app on my phone so I can check more often. Welcome

Hey Carissa, I would prefer the 12th as the acceptance letters should go out on the 10th :) Would be nice to know for sure that we are accepted before taking the class! Also it will give others a bit more time to sign up.

I went to MDC yesterday and they are not done with reviewing applications yet. Next, they have 497 applications for the generic FT and 150 seats available and the highest overall score is 97.6%, 170 applications for the FT transitional and 78 seats available with the highest overall score of 95.7. I didn't ask about AO. Once they finish reviewing applications the computer dpt will enter all scores and do the "ranking" then emails are sent, this would be at least 2-3 weeks from today.

Question: why would you guys want to go to key largo for CPR when there are multiple places to do it in Miami with flexible schedules and closer to us? Just asking!

I was thinking the same thing about the acceptance letters, but I'm also eager to get it over with. Hopefully the letters go out on the 10th (or earlier!). I will for sure go on the 12th so we can confirm with Brenda.

Thanks guys! I know I've been compulsively checking e-mails and this thread already. I hope we all get in! I've really been trying to keep myself occupied in the meantime, but now it's not working anymore. At least my son keeps me pretty busy, he's 19 months and CRAZY! What are everyone's plans for the summer? I'll be working at my son's school (I left there to do my prereq's last fall). It looks like with all of the expenses we'll have, I'll basically be working for that. I'm also trying to do as much socializing as possible this summer, because I see that once we're in (hopefully) there will be NO time for a social life!
