Why hello there, fellow students!
You can call me Cedeno, and I'll be applying for the MDC nursing program for fall 2013! I've been excited for awhile now, especially since MDC (and all its red tape) has delayed my intended apply date twice (originally Fall 2012, then Spring 2013). Ah, but no worries!
Right now I'm taking my last bit of classes before applying: A&P 2 w/lab, Micro, and Critical Thinking/Ethics. I've seen many nursing students this semester-- which is wonderful-- but at the same time I think two words when I meet another pre-nursing student: "Awesome! " and "Competition!
" (Not seriously, but in a jokey kind of way.)
Once admitted, I'd love to form a study group. Size isn't quite so much the priority as cohesiveness is (though size counts!). I'd love study mates who like to utilize chats like Google talk, Skype, Kik, etc. for times when perhaps we'd like to study something but cannot make it to a physical location.
I'm a visual and auditory learner, so I love highlighters, dry-erase boards, and discussing questions together to ensure everyone understands rather than one person offering up the answer and others just accepting it without knowing.
Ah! I've managed to turn this into an ad for study mates! I'm just excited and hope there are other potential classmates here on AN. Please pop in and say hello! Let's talk GPAs, TEAS scores, whatever!
....Also if you take the TEAS twice is it highest score used or last test taken?
GOOD LUCK!
Stats:
Expected final science GPA: 3.67
TEAS score: n/a
@lgv2004 - I agree with Carissa. When you look at the link which states all the requirements it specifies they want it valid thru December 2014. I wouldn't take the chance, because you don't know what the schedule will be later on in the year for the CPR class. You also don't know what your schedule will be like with classes, and the times may conflict. You can always do the recertification class if the original one was certified through American Heart Association. I have a CPR/BLS card that expires in June and I would do the recertification course. Its a little cheaper and not as long.[/quote']Both of you are right. I'm going to be out of country the whole month of June, so I will take that class on July. On what campus are you planning to take that class? For recertification, it is only available at the Kendall campus or medical campus. I'm saying this because the only professor who teaches that class at Kendall campus ( M. )is a really mean person.
Carissa and others interested in doing the CPR class outside MDC: I just called the Key Largo Volunteer Ambulance Service. There is a lady that gives the AHA first aid and CPR class for health care providers. She will do the class for just $55 each with a 2 person minimum. She sounds very flexible on scheduling. Would anyone be interested in this class?
I would be interested in doing the Key Largo course - the price is right - depending on when and where. I have off work most Wednesdays and all Sundays. They want us to have Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR. I'm not sure if this is the same as the course she is offering. If it's the correct class, maybe we can get a large group together and see if we can get even more of a discount!
@Alecia - I'd appreciate if you could share her number so I can call and get more info (I totally believe you, but I just need to get more info to put my mind at ease). How long do the estimate the course to be? It will be a smaller group so I would think it would take less than 6 hours. Once I speak to them I'll let you know for sure if I can do it on a Wednesday. I, too, would like to do it sometime in mid-June. Keep me posted
