I am interested in the reserve nurse corps. Can anyone tell me how long the process is from start to finish? Also, I have received conflicting information regarding bonuses available. Does anyone know what the bonus is currently? (I am a critical care nurse, but not interested in flight nursing.) Also, is COTS two weeks for reserve nurses or five weeks?

There is several posts on this info but I will tell you some things. The time length from start to finish is soooo varied it is not predictable; plan on several months. Bonus also vary depending on time of year, job, positions available and just luck. That about tells you nothing, sorry.

Can anyone tell me if the Reserves COTS is two or four weeks?

Its four. There is no such thing as reserves COT. There is only one COT

Technically, there is.

Though all classes are held on OTS campus @ Maxwell, there are usually two "reserve" sessions held each fiscal year that are two weeks in length rather than the 5 (i.e., 35 calender days when all's said and done)that all the others run.

While those two week classes are labeled for "reserve", they are, again, only 2 a year and incredibly shrunken as far as attendance numbers. AFR nurses could conceivably end up at either but the trend has been to mainly send Priors to the condensed course for some obvious reasons.

That said, don't think there are hard and fast's and may be something you can negotiate up front if there were some reason it would really matter..

I am newly sworn in as an AFR flight nurse and like she said, there is what they call RCOT for reserves but it is very hard to get into. First one for this year was April and the next one is not until December. I was told that although nurses in the reserves do sometimes get this slot, it is mainly for JAG and MD's. Given that it is even more difficult for them to take that much time away from civilian position.

I would "plan" in your head that you will be attending the regular COT and not rely on that IF I were you.

I am currently awaiting a date for COT as I will be inprocessing on base in July.

FYI: Just a note on the length.....It took me a year from initial interview on base to getting sworn in. Had my interview in May 08 and Sworn in beg of June 09 if that help ya at all. According to the blogs I read during my process, a year was about average.

Could you PM me some of the blog links you have? I'm about to go nuts to talk to some folks and maybe meet some that will be at COTS with me (my date is 23 August, and it took me almost a year as well - I'm going active duty, though).
