Air Force FY2016

Published

Hi! This will be my second time applying as a NICU RN for the Air Force. I'm applying to the September boards. It would be great to hear from anyone applying to these boards as well! I posted a different thread a while back about this same thing, but it got no responses. Figured i would try again!

:)

@ Camo-Angel and jfratian,

I love how yal responded to the question about reducing numbers! Sometimes when I share with someone my future goals/plans/dreams to serve...I frequently get that response about cutting numbers. Usually I give this stare of "why must you rain on my parade?!" lol. :woot:

All I can tell them is "well, they must still need nurses because they are still advertising for them". I can't think of anything else I'd rather do. It's the only reason I'm even getting my BSN out of the way.

ps...I've been watching these threads for a while now and I really appreciate all the information you all share.

Hi!

I am applying for the September/October board also. I am so excited as it's right around the corner. I'm coming from a little different angle though. I am a civilian with no prior and I am older-46. I am applying for a FQ med surge position, which my recruiter did inform me has 30 slots this board, which is encouraging. I have spent almost 8 months getting my package ready and have everything completed except the interview with the CNO. Looking forward to hearing from others who will be with me on pins and needles as the date approaches. Good luck to us all!!

Good luck! Even though September/October feels far away, I know that it's going to be here before we know it! I'm waiting on one last letter of recommendation and then doing my interviews in August! I've been through the process before, so I know what to expect. But it's still nerve racking. What's even more nerve racking is waiting for that phone call whether you made it in or not. It was pretty devastating last time getting a negative phone call. :/ But here's to praying it goes better the second time around!

Hi,

I am also applying for 2016 boards. I am applying FQ med-surg nurse. I'm getting my BSN this coming December and I can't wait. I am super excited.

Hi TnRN,

I talked to my recruiter and he told me that there are only 15 slots for medsurg? Have they changed it again? I mean 30 is better than 15.

I'm not sure. He read off the list of specialties and their numbers and he said 30 for med surge. I know it had been 15 for the previous board. I sure hope he's right!!

Hello. I am also boarding in September as a FQ Mental Health Nurse. "Older" nurse, prior service Army and Air Force (both enlisted), mental health and critical care background, currently work as GS for the Army as a mental health nurse. Hoping to see you all in COT this coming Spring. Anyone happen to notice how many slots there are for mental health this FY?

So boards meet in September for COT in January, and then the second round meets in January for COT in March, is that right?

No, it's just 2 boards that meet for fully qualified. So in September they meet and look over everyone who applied and make selections from that group. I'm pretty sure that you just get put into a COT class based on openings at the base you're assigned to and how many slots they have in each COT class. And then the other board which I think is in March meets to fill the remaining slots for each speciality and new people can apply to that board. Does that make sense?

But don't quote me on that. I could be totally wrong, but I was never told that either year I applied.

ok so in that case...I have just started the process. Got an email today from a recruiter for the first time. Am I looking at next year most likely ?

Yes, you are at least looking at next year for boards. If you have enough experience by March you can apply for that one, otherwise it's apply to NTP in July or the FQ board next September...just depends how your experience works out

Hi Morgan! Good luck with your app! This my second time applying as well - I was an alternate last year for med surg - I hope this is our year!
