Hi! This will be my second time applying as a NICU RN for the Air Force. I'm applying to the September boards. It would be great to hear from anyone applying to these boards as well! I posted a different thread a while back about this same thing, but it got no responses. Figured i would try again!

Ecjwalker-if I may ask, what number alternate were you? Just curious how far down the alternate list made it in.

@TnRN43, BSN Last year they accepted 15 selects for the FQ med/surg with 15 alternates. I was alternate 14 so pretty far down the list. My understanding based upon information from my recruiter is that if you are alternate #1 or 2 you potentially have chance of getting the call that you moved from an alternate to a select. However, much beyond that doesn't have much of a chance. The only good thing about being an alternate is that if you plan on re-applying it does not count against you. You are only allowed to apply twice to the same program i.e. FQ med/surg or FQ critical care etc. However, if you are an alternate, it doesn't count against you if you want to reapply. I wish you the best of luck! This will be a long 36 days!

Just finished my meps yesterday and I was qualified for service. Yay!!!

Hi! I am also headed to Sept board for med/surg. Just wanted to be part of the group of anxiously awaiting. :)

I've been following these posts for a while and I figured I would jump in. I've applied FQ Med/Surg for this September board. Waiting is the hardest part. Ever since my packet has been submitted I can't help but to go over it in my head thinking about what I could have done to increase my chances. Here is hoping for the best for all of us!

Any heads up or advice for meps? Mine is coming up soon! Also am wondering if I can bring my family to the hotel the night before or what was the rule for hotel? Any tips well appreciated.

Just try to relax and think of it as just your regular physical exam. Don't be frustrated with the whole "hurry up and wait" system. Make sure you go over with your recruiter what you need to do. If you can hold your pee, then it will make the whole process faster when it's your turn to give urine sample. Be polite. Be friendly with other applicants because it will make the day go by faster. Hope this helps. Good luck to all of us.

also applying for the Sept. boards... med/surg. in the process of just waiting! according to my recruiter a few days ago, slots raised to 20 for clinical positions.

I've been following along for a bit, first time posting though. Submitted my packet for the September boards for FQ Critical Care. MEPS done, specialty and chief nurse interviews under the belt... just waiting. I hope they don't wait to notify last minute on Oct 19 but who knows. I've been working on my application for about a year and a half. Feels good to have it out of my hands.

theflashbang...

were you told by your recruiter that we would find out Oct 19? Didn't hear that from mine, but it would be great to know that we would find out that day or sooner! Thanks!

Yes, I was told that they have to notify by Oct 19. Whether that means no later than versus that being the exact date they notify I am not sure. My recruiter had initially told me the usually get notifications done before then.

TheFlashbang, Do you know how many applied and how many slots for critical care? Just curious. I'm not applying for critical care but that is my background.
