Military.com references the special pay Special Pay for Nurse Corps Officers | Military.com I also found it referenced in some of the department of defense financial regulations books but there it said congress had only authorized the pay through December 2014, though those same regulations said ascension bonuses were also only authorized until 2014 and I know they are still doing those. When I did my Chief Nurse Interview in September I asked about it and the Lt. Col. that was interviewing me said she receives the pay for her Board Certification but she didn't really give me any information about it other than saying you will have to go through my chain of command. My recruiter gave me my receiving Chief Nurse's contact information and had me write her an email inquiring about it. I will post on here what I find out. I am excited about starting this journey no matter what but I just want to get the best contract going in possible. If I can get $80000 over 4 years vs. $30000 up front I will take the $80000 any day of the week.

Does anyone have any information on Nurses Incentive Specialty Pay? My recruiter called and wanted to know if I wanted to choose an ascension bonus or student loan pay back with a 4 year contract or both with a 6 year contract. I told him neither because it is my understanding if you already have an obligation to pay back you can't receive an Incentive Specialty Pay Bonus because it requires an obligation in of its self. For those who don't know about the Incentive Specialty Pay it is my understanding that to qualify you must be board certified and attend some kind of class in that specialty. Then you agree to a certain number of years and receive Incentive Specialty Pay based off that number. A one year contract receives $5000 a year, two year contract $10,000 PER YEAR, three year contract $15,000 PER YEAR, up to a four year contract $20,000 PER YEAR. What I am unsure about is that this program is unchanged FY 2016 and how do you file to receive it. I don't want to sign an ascension bonus for $30000 when after 3 months I can take a class in MedSurg and then receive an extra $20,000 every year for FOUR years. If anyone has any knowledge about this I would love for you to share.

My recruiter told me today that everything is still not completely finalized in the computer but I am tentatively in for San Antonio with a COT date of May 23. It isn't set in stone, of course very little in the Air Force ever is until it happens, but this is something to aim at. I hope you all find out soon. Also, interesting side note, my recruiter said this board had a 57% acceptance rate for FQ Med Surg applicants, with 30 being accepted. I know the suspense can drive you crazy but I wish everyone the best of luck and look forward to seeing many of you at COT in May.

I live in the Florida panhandle, alabama, Louisiana area. I don't know how many applicants my recruiter submitted or how many were selected. I am selected for FQ medsurge. My background to compare for selection is I am a 26 year old male. I earned my bachelors in nursing from a major state university with a gpa of only 3.342, though while in college I worked up to three jobs at a time to graduate debt free. I have a little over 3 years medsurg/oncology experience of which about half has been spent as the charge nurse on my shift. I am ancc medsurg certified. I have my acls and ons chemo certifications. Also I have participated in multiple hospital committed and initiatives. Overall I only had a little bit of volunteer work since graduating college. In my chief nurse interview I emphasized looking to make a career of the airforce and pursuing a masters degree to advance in rank. This was my first time applying to the military. That is really all I can think of that went into my application. I can't wait to hopefully find out my assignment this week and look forward to meeting many of you at COT!

I found out last week that I was selected FQ Med/surg. My recruiter said he didn't think many people would be going to COT in January from this selection board, that most would be March 28th or May. It seems like most people on here were accepted. Does anyone know how many applied for Med/Surg and how many were accepted this time around?

Morgan, did your recruiter say the official results were out for everyone or did your recruiter have access to an early unofficial list?

I've been following these posts for a while and I figured I would jump in. I've applied FQ Med/Surg for this September board. Waiting is the hardest part. Ever since my packet has been submitted I can't help but to go over it in my head thinking about what I could have done to increase my chances. Here is hoping for the best for all of us!
