Is anyone else on here applying for FY 2015 for Air Force? I'm in the process of applying for the selection board in October 2014 and it would be great to hear from someone else also applying for the end of this year! :)

Yes servant~leader I cannot believe only 10 clinical nurse slots this year. They actually need more ER nurses (18) this year but I do not have a full 2-3 years ER experience so changing to clinical nurse will hopefully give me batter chances. I thankfully have solid references as I already work with veterans so lots of ex military references. Best of luck to you hope to see ya at OTS January or March!!!!:)

Hello everyone,

I have also submitted my application for the October selection board. I am applying for one of two OB nurse positions. I have seven years of L&D, PP, and Nursery experience. I have five years prior military service as well. I can't wait until everyone finds out if they were selected or not. My recruiter told me that the selection board will release their results October 20th. I will be carrying my phone with me everywhere that day. :nailbiting: I wish everyone good luck!

Enova- hey, I saw the post about only 10 clinical slots.....I have been hearing 15 clinical slots, 18 ER, and 14 CC...anyone else hear the same?

ArjjA wow maybe they changed I did know 18 ER and I got that from my recruiter like 2 months ago. If so that means better odds for us clinical nurses!! God I sure do hope so!! These 5 weeks will seem to be forever I can't wait!! #oct20

This article says up to 210 clinical nurses being cut. I'm really worried now. Seems like we are fighting a tough battle to get in!!:bookworm: Getting in is the beginning then more competition to stay in! Lots of prayers for all of us....

Yeah, that article is from February. Around July, we were told that enough people got out voluntarily so that they suspended nurse corps force shaping boards for company grade officers in the AF.

Plus, anyone who gets in now will already be included in the new reduced force levels. They won't have to worry future boards unless the Air Force decides they really want to cut a lot of people.

When these force shaping boards started, my chief nurse told us that the AF Nurse corps is actually slightly understrength. However, personnel wanted every career field to share some of the burden.

OMG jfratian, thank u so much for sharing that knowledge!!! I was so seriously disappointed when I read that! This means I need to keep up my training yay!!! Thank u again:)

If anyone is out there reading this thread: I had two interviews in July. I am talking about the Air National Guard which I learned is very different from AD. One state was willing to just bring me right back in ( I am prior service, 4 years AD Army as a 91B, followed by 8.5 years in the Air National Guard as a 4N, RN since 2003 with critical care, current high risk cath lab experience, BSN), no application packet, no board interview. As I later learned they were bringing me in on "overage" which is not a great thing, making it difficult for promotion. In addition this unit is a grueling 3 hour commute so I turned it down. Surprisingly a position opened at the base 10 minutes from my home, great opportunities for advancement, they went through the whole painful process, chief nurse interview, application packet and I have the board interview this Friday and am VERY nervous, as there are 4 additional candidates. Subsequently, a friend of mine offered me an opportunity at another unit, also about 2.5 hours from my home, which I will consider should I not be accepted to the unit 10 minutes from my home. Please, someone give me some advice as to what they may expect me to discuss and what questions they may present at this interview, even if you only have AD advice, I want to hear it!

RCRN70 to go in AD we do not do a board interview. The only thing we go through is chief nurse interview and we talk to an advisor from our specialty, if we are going into a specialty. The board for us meets and just looks at our paper packet and recommendation from the chief nurse interview. We do not even get to find out how many we are competing with until after the board meets. It sounds like you have a great background and you shouldn't sweat it! I hope everything goes great for you, will be praying for you!!:)

Hi Stack! I'm a "hope-to-be AF nurse"...still finishing up the BSN. I've recently found these threads for those actively applying and it's been exciting reading through them and watching everyones stories/futures unfold. I saw your post...just wondering how it turned out for you?
