Is anyone else on here applying for FY 2015 for Air Force? I'm in the process of applying for the selection board in October 2014 and it would be great to hear from someone else also applying for the end of this year! :)
RCRN70 it will definitely be a big adjustment for my whole family to go active duty. I am taking a leap of faith and hoping we love it. I applied last year and did not get in, so really hoping this time it works. The board for us meets this Tuesay the 30th!! We won't find out until oct 20th!! I'm super nervous and excited, but mainly just want to plan for the next few years. I hope we get stationed somewhere great so my husband and kids will love it, keeping my fingers crossed.
Krismista, the chief nurse I interviewed with got me in touch with the ER advisor via e mail. I then called the advisor and played phone tag for a few days. It wasn't anything formal. Mainly a discussion about my experience and background and if it would be better for me to try clinical nurse vs. ER nurse. She was very nice and has tons of titles, she was stationed in Virginia and I am in Arkansas. Once the talk happened I just had to let my recruiter and chief nurse know what I decided to apply for.
sbain51, I am an OR nurse too trying to become an officer in the Air Force and started this application process in February of this year and am still waiting...PM me and I'll tell you everything I know that could be helpful for you, and perhaps you know some things I do not that you could help me with too. We go through a bit different recruitment process than the other nurse specialities is what I've been told...but either way still in the same boat with the waiting and suspense of not knowing
Krismista,
My recruiter just got the email of the NICU advisor and emailed her directly. He emailed her on like a Monday or Tuesday and we had the interview the following Tuesday. She was just busy at the end of that week, so it had to wait a week or so until we found a date and time that fit both our availability. It was pretty informal set up for the interview. My recruiter then forwarded me the email with the date and time and her phone number. She was in Texas and I'm in Maryland, so I had to call her at 10am her time.
And my recruiter isn't the best. If I didn't have contacts or found out a lot of information myself, I still wouldn't know half of what's going on. He's always one step behind and isn't very proactive. I like to stay on top of everything, but he likes to text me last minute saying he needs forms filled out ASAP. If I wasn't dead set on joining, he would have turned me off from the military.
That's generally how most officer recruiters that I have heard of or dealt with are. There is no incentive for them to proactively recruit, since there are more people than slots. Get used to it, because a lot of career fields you'll have to deal with in the Air Force likewise lack any incentive to excel (cough***finance***cough).
Yeah, I've heard that. But I've also heard the rare recruiter who is actually nice and does their job. My recruiter is just plain rude. The other day I had a question and when he answered the phone he said he was ignoring my previous text message I sent the day before, quickly answered my question, then proceeded to hang up on me! I understand that they are very busy with lots of people to deal with and most of those people won't get chosen, but it would still be nice if they were polite and did their job somewhat. It just makes this process for me very frustrating and more stressful when it's already nerve racking enough!
Hi everyone!
I also applied for Oct board to start COT in January. I can't believe there is only six days until October 20 when the results are suppose to be released. I am sorry to hear some of you had a bad experience with the recruiters. My was very nice but seemed like the paperwork took for ever to finish.
Good luck everyone!
I don't want to burst your bubble.... BUT, do not expect a call from your recruiter on October 20th. Seriously. Personal experience - I expected a call the week of Thanksgiving years ago. Basically, I did not find out until the next March that I was accepted to the COT in May. I did get my slot, it just took much longer than I had been told. No news is good news. So don't turn blue waiting.
Good luck!
Ha I know you are right midinphx about not holding our breath, I'm an alternate from last year! It's nice to hope and dream though. You are right no news good news and will gear myself to enjoy the holidays. For sanity sake I hope it's sooner rather than later but either way I am committed to my dream! God be with us all through the next few weeks or months
