Has anyone applied for the ADN program at Aiken Tech? I know the deadline for applications isn't until May 30th but I have had my paperwork ready and submitted it today and the suspense is killing me ALREADY!! Just wanted to see if anyone else was waiting to get in and wanted to see how many points others had, their GPA and teas scores.
So I was looking at my FAFSA today, and noticed that the overall graduation rate for Aiken Tech is 14% (this is probably true for most community colleges though) and I seen a picture of the spring nursing graduating class, there were around 8 to 10 people graduating, wow.
Aiken Tech had an awesome first time NCLEX pass rate though, I managed to find the yearly report a few months ago and it was above 94%.
I'm getting nervous, lol. But I for one plan on making it through.
OK, my wife's friend said that most of her clinicals were here in Aiken and Augusta, but she went to Columbia once, just for that weeks clinical.
She said that they do have clinicals in the first semester, at nursing homes.
I'll have to ask her about the math test that you're talking about cakers45. I've read about them on here, and from what I understand they are mainly dosage and conversion tests.
I got my cna junior year of high school and my pct senior year of high school and we did a lot of clinicals in nursing homes and hospitals in the Augusta area....but of course we didn't really do anything hard, just mainly shadow the people. I'm definitely nervous about clinicals as an actual nursing student though.
Just out of curiosity how old are all of you? I am only 18, turning 19 this month. I feel like if I'm accepted I will be the youngest of the bunch! Lol
Thank you all for some of the insight on how clinical works. Any additional information you can find out such as how many hours each semester, if there is a certain rotation of days/nights. I'm going to do everything in my power to continue to work thru nursing school (or at least the majority of it anyways). I do not want to have to take out student loans or anything and I will be an out of state resident and paying out of state tuition fees which are extremely high. My job does not require the time an effort an ordinary job does and it's really laid back. In fact, I will be able to sleep or study during my downtime.
Jesykahope, you are definitely younger than me! I'm currently 25 and married with a 3 year old son. I'm getting very nervous and anxious about the nursing program. I am wanting an acceptance letter so bad and just hoping that things work out with work/school. If there is any job to have while in nursing school, it's definitely mine. But as you can see, I will have a lot to juggle for a year and a half. But I have faith that I can make it through especially with my family and friends and hopefully all of you in the nursing program too because we all seem so dedicated to get in and finish.
I'll ask my wife's friend about the clinical hours. I have read before that it starts out low, maybe 4 hours, then progresses each semester untill we're in 12 hour clinicals. And I'm not sure about it being day or night shift, but I will ask.
I have never been without a job, so that is going to be one of the worst parts, but I will be looking for a good part time job this fall.
Looks like I'm the old man on here then; Jesykahope, I'm exactly twice your age, 36. I'm married and we have two kids. My wife is awesome and very supportive, otherwise I wouldn't be able to do any of this.
I agree with both of you. I want us to get in and make it so bad and we will as long as we work hard. I am married too and also have a daughter who will be one in July. A lot of people tell me I'm too young and I probably won't be able to make it through, but I'm so determined to do this! I am not working at the moment, my husband is working and in school so that's another reason why I'm determined to get through this because I want to help him out so he won't have to work as hard.
I think my biggest fear is that I might have a hard time balancing my family and school. My sister just graduated from nursing school and I witnessed her go through hell! She did tell me that it was worth it though, she worked hard and made it at 22 years old. Being so young I feel like some people won't take me seriously because she gets some patients that constantly ask how old she is because they can tell she's young and they think she doesn't know anything.
Thank you so much for the words of encouragement. That's another reason why I just want to go straight into it now because I know a lot of people who had kids young like me and kept having more kids and kept putting off school and they told me I just need to do it now because once you take a break it's so hard to go back.
I am a single Mom of two young boys. I am also going to have a a hard time. We should just stick together and have a study group if we can and support each other. I feel that we can be an encouragement to us all and we can help one another. We have to look at it as we are on the down slope to a rewarding career. I pray that we all get in. #30daysandcounting

Oh, incidentely, I believe that the Aiken Tech scrubs are red now, at least that's what I have seen in the book store, unless those were for another program.
How I hope that they are light brown rrather than red.
