Hi everyone,
I´m a registered nurse from Germany with 4 years experience. Went to the whole registration process with ahpra and waited 7 months. Today I received an email, that they are considering to refuse my application. The reason for that is, that they do not consider my training as equivalent with the Australian one. That is really a joke. Has someone ever been in this situation before? How did you write your appeal letter?
Hi to you all. I just received the outcome of my review. They deny registration. They give me 12 months to complete a bridging course and then I have to APPLY again and wait for their answer if they will register me or not. I do not believe that all AHPRA branches act in the same way. The rules are the same but the melbourne branch maybe understand them in a different way. It's a waist of time to apply at melbourne.
Hello everyone,
i want to ask on how to apply for ahpra, i am an overseas nurse. what are the documents needed? i've seen the proof of identity checklist, they are all stating australian documents, like overseas passport with australian visa (isn't it you will only apply for australian visa once ahpra approved your application and you have a school to go to?), australian driver's license, australian birth certificate, etc.
please help dont know what to do, thanks a lot..
Hi nice_chan. Where have you studied nursing? I'm asking as this forum is directed more towards European trained nurses, so you might find another forum to be more suitable for you. Do you hold a bachelor degree in nursing? Have you passed an IELTS-test with a score of 7 in each subject?
You apply to APHRA before applying with ANMAC. Though some do it the other way around. APHRA seems to be much more stricht. You need certified copies (and if they're not in English - translated) of your degree-certificate, transcript from your nursing school, IELTS-test scores (sent directly to APHRA), certificate of good standing, criminal record check, evidence from former employers stating how you have performed as a nurse, hours per week and total period of employment. You will probably need a lot more than this - I suggest you email APHRA - though most of this information is on their website.
It seems that they are not letting internationally trained nurses in willingly. Most get a refusal and are asked to attend/pass a bridging program.
I hope this has helped you a bit - you are able to find all of the above mentioned information on APHRAs website. Good luck with your application.

This forum is not directed more to the European Nurse and will find most threads discussing APHRA are nurses from the Philippines. All nurses requiring licensure in a country that they did not train in post in this section for advice from people gone or going through the process. Many citizens or people who trained in the country they live in tend not to know International requirements
Silverdragon102 - it wasn't to be rude. This specific thread has more European trained nurses than other threads that are more directed towards nurses from the Philippines - and I was only suggesting she might get more information from those threads. Sorry if my English was misunderstood, when I wrote forum I meant this specific thread. As a European trained nurse this thread was the only one that I found was suitable for me as most of the information on other threads are more directed towards nurses from other parts of the world.
Hi everyone and thank you for a very useful thread. I am a swedish nurse with 3,5 years work experience in hospital care. I applied sept 2013 for AHPRA Melbourne office to get my registration. I received a refusal letter the other week and I have to do a bridging course or make a submission to get the registration. Is there anyone here who have done the Bridging course or have any advices about it? As far as I know it costs approx. 14 000 AUS dollars and runs for 12 weeks.
I spoke to AHPRA today and my advice to you others who have got refusal letters is to get back to AHPRA as soon as possible and tell them about your plans, whether its doing the course or the submission. I have to tell them my plans before 9th feb otherwise my application will be withdrawn! Read the letter carefully is my advice!
My other question is to you lisbeth22, is there any chance I could have a look at your submission and the documents that made AHPRA approve your registration finally? I'm impressed by your work on it and congrats to the registration! I understand if you don't want to share the information, but if you do, here is my e-mail address: [email protected]
Kind regards, Emma
Hey Lisbeth! Hope you're still hangin' around the forums :) me and my girlfriend are currently awaiting ahpra's decision (we're both swedish trained nurses and got our degrees from the red cross in Stockholm). I'm preparing for the worst since I've only seen one swedish nurse get approved right off the bat so far... If you dont mind sharing the information in your appeal, it wound be greatly appreciated

If you have any questions regarding ANMAC or the visa stuff, I'll gladly help in any way I can as we are sort of on the final stretch of getting the skilled independent visa :)
Hi Ceridwyn. To answer your question. ANMAC recognises most European trained nurses (bachelor degrees or similar under EU directive 2005/EC/36) and it's therefore easier to get an approval from ANMAC than APHRA. APHRA doesn't "off the bat" recognise the degrees. You would think that they have and assess using the same standards - however this doesn't seem to be the case. Don't ask me why. From what I can find online, many get approved with ANMAC, pay the high fee for a visa and then apply to APHRA (thinking it will be a breeze) - only to not be approved.
It's a puzzle to me and I think many others trained in Europe.

Well, unfortunately I am not allowed to write private messages within this system. Stupid. However, I hope to get out some more information and details that could lead to a successful registration of your documents. Meine eMail Adresse ist palaoro_dana (at) freenet.de. Thanks
