In 1986 I was 22 y/o. I worked FT and PT and raised a kid. No regrets. Still going to school.I have made it through many trial and tribulations. No idea the median age of nurses. I felt a calling to nurse and went with it.

MY Lpn Class the I am sure it was very young there were only a few of us "old Girls" enrolled. my ADN Class was at least 40. I was 45 when I started 48 when I finished.
I read some where that the average age of nurses in the US is 45.
Because I want to make a difference.
I worked full time Nights, all three years of school... I took Online classes as much as possible. only went to "the old shool house" for the core classes and hospital for clinicals.
This is the best thing I ever Did!!!

1) what is the average age of a new nurse ?? i don't know. i'd be more interested in the median age, though.
2)what made you want to become a nurse ? lots of reasons. tired of the uncertainty of the high-tech and manufacturing industries, tired of sitting behind a computer all day, tired of traveling, tired of the lack of human interaction, wanted a skill that could be used in service missions, wanted some flexibility regarding schedule and location, pretty good salary payoff for a limited investment of time.
3) what age did you start nursing school ? i'll be 43
4) are you happy with your decision ? so far. of course, school doesn't start 'til january. i'm in cna class right now and not scared off, yet. i'm pretty confident with my decision, though.
5.) did you work while you were in school ? full time or part time ? i won't work. our accelerated program screens for that and highly discourages any plans of working during the program. i worked like a dog and negotiated like a sleazy lawyer at my last job in order to save the funds to let me go to school without working.

1) what is the adverage age of a new nurse ?? No clue but I'm betting around age 30.
2)what made you want to become a nurse ? Second (well really 3rd!) career for me, have an undergrad in computer sci and a master's in adult education, but burnt out of the corporate world after 5-6 years, and stayed home as a SAHM for a decade raising 3 boys (my second career). Just finished nursing school in June!
3) what age did you start nursing school ? 38, almost 39. Finished at age 41.
4) are you happy with your decision ? Yes I am, I really feel I have reached my calling. I make at least half of what I would in the corporate world, but I am happier actually making a difference in someone's life.
5.) did you work while you were in school ? full time or part time ? I didn't work (for pay that is) but having 3 boys and taking care of a household is pretty demanding. I graduated #1 in my class too! Very proud of my accomplishment.
Well said Piki and congratulations on your student success. Wish u the best in your career.
