Hey guys,
This is my first post but I read through these all the time. I graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 07 with a Psych degree and will be applying to some of the ABSN and BSN programs in NC (Duke, UNC's BSN, WSSU ABSN, NCCU etc). I'm finishing up my pre-req's right now and had a quick question. Back at UNC I had one really bad semester. Long story short- my parents filed for divorce, and on top of working and driving two hours, back and forth multiple times a week, to spend some time with my brothers (11 & 12 yr old) so they could get through it, I ended up missing a LOT of class and got a D in AP I and a D in Chem 2. My Cumulative GPA is around a 3.2-3.3 and My pre-req is a 4.0. I have since retaken AP and got an A; however, Chem 2 is not a pre-req. Should I go ahead and retake that Chem 2 class to show that I can handle it- or am I overkilling it? Any advice would be great, Thanks!

Welcome to allnurses, UNCpsyGuy! I am also here in the great Old North State, and have practiced nursing here for a many years (decades, at this point).
My thought would be to go ahead and apply "as is" -- nothing ventured, nothing gained -- if you discover, in that process, that you do need to repeat Chem 2 and improve your grade, you can always do that later (and not be much farther behind where you would be anyway). But why spend the extra time and $$ if you might not need to?
Best wishes for your journey! :balloons:

I agree with everyone else
Thanks everyone! I am definitely going to apply as is and take one of the 'strongly recommended' courses instead of trying to make up a non required bad grad. Thanks again!
