Advice for New Students!

Published

Hi guys!

I start my ABSN program in 2 months (yikes!) and was wondering if any of you experienced students have any wisdom you could share with me? Any tips for surviving school is appreciated, study techniques, etc. And is there anything I should review before the program actually starts? I was premed in college and took all my prereqs 4 or 5 years ago so I'm worried I'll be a little rusty. Thanks for the help :)

Premed classes are completely different from nursing classes and I think you will be fine even if you're a little rusty in those areas. Once you go along in the program you will use A&P and stuff you've learned in your biology course but it will not be the main thing. Critical thinking is what you will use the most.

As far as studying ahead, dont. You don't know what you're going to be starting with so there's really no point and you will have enough material to cover once you begin (some people think is a good idea to study ahead). What i would do now is really enjoy the time you have off. Try to prepare yourself by organizing yourself, buy a planner or use a good online calendar, buy your books ahead of time if you can, buy supplemental books such as an nclex book that will help you on the long run. Good luck!!!

Ps. Buy a bunch of highlighters, paper, post-its, and good coffee!!!!
