If you take the finals and pass, would you then have completed those courses? Or do you only get credit for those classes if you complete clinical too? (At my nursing school, it was impossible to complete a theory course if you did not pass the clinical component of the course). If you get credit for those courses, I would definitely take the finals.
Yes. I wouldve passed the remaining nursing classes if I take my finals. Then if I were to be readmitted into the program, those classes would be complete. However, I'm not sure if it is even worth it if I didnt get back in and had to go to another school and start over.
Those credits might transfer to another school. Plus, it shows that even though you had a something bad happen with clinical, you still had the determination not to get too down and to go back and finish these classes. Unless there was a big financial incentive not to take the finals, I say go for it.
So you are taking 3 classes and didn't pass clinical in one class, but are wondering about taking finals in the other two? Yes definitely take the finals in the other two. Are you allowed one failure and you can retake the course and continue in the program or one failure and out of the program? Why screw up your chances of getting back into the program by failing your other two classes?
Nursing classes very rarely transfer to another school, that is why they are called nursing programs because each school develops their own program.
Definitely take the finals. One thing you are not taking into consideration is what an "incomplete" turns into. If you take the "I" grade, initially your GPA remains the same. But there is a certain timeline in which you have to complete the course or it becomes a failure and your GPA will drop majorly. This could affect your ability in not only getting into another nursing program, but really any post graduate program as well. Nursing or otherwise. Plus, if you retake the classes again, you are paying for them again. If you complete them now, they are already paid for, and if you get readmitted you wont have to pay for them again, and sit through the whole course again. If you made it to finals with good grades in the courses, at least finish them. It will look better on your application for readmittnace if you completed them.
I agree with the others. Take your finals! If you don't take them, it will reflect negatively on you because when you either reapply, retake the course, or apply to a new program, you will look as if you have just given up or are sulking.
My husband just read over my shoulder and said: "You didn't fail your whole program, just one course so it would be foolish to give up now. If you do well on the other two finals, you won't have to retake them later. Incompletes at some schools become F's when grades become final. You will still have loan payments." Straight from the professor's mouth!

Hello
I recently got kicked out of the nursing program 2 weeks ago due to a failed clinical.
However, I still have to finish the last two finals coming up this this friday and monday.
I've been in the hospital for a week and just got out.
These are my options....
My GPA will go down to 3.2 regardless from a 3.47 since the clinical was from a 7 credit class.
I could either take my finals and finish with credits-- however I'm not determined how well I will do on both of them.
One of them will be open book(Research--88.66)
The other one will be comprehensive--maternal-infant.(82.66)
I know even with a B in maternal and a possible A in research it will be only still be a 3.28.
or my instructor gave me the options to have them incomplete which will make my GPA remain a 3.2 and I can reapply and take all the classes again
Has anyone been in this situation? Is this worth it?
