Greetings! I am a RN with about 1 years medsurg experience looking to apply for FY 2017 to the Navy for direct accession. Anyone else out there working on their packet or that have already submitted it? Please feel free share your experiences thus far, desired duty stations and any valuable info. Thanks!
Natasha, if you bank with USAA, the bank will continue to pay active duty members their usual paycheck during a shutdown. If they don't get it figured out by 1 February, USAA will contact those who qualify for this benefit. Pretty sure Navy Federal does the same thing, but I am not 100% on that.
Hey guys! I was reading some of these posts and I know they are older but I am in the process of joining the navy as an officer (nurse) I keep seeing things about a packet? I haven't gotten a packet. I've been in contact with my recruiter and I'm just starting the medical prescreen and background check. When should I receive a packet or what's the next step after you take your physical
Those recruiter pre-screens are just to make sure that you meet basic physical, medical, and criminal history requirements. It's to weed out people that are definitely ineligible to apply (i.e. those who are seriously overweight, with significant medical history, and those with felonies).
You'll probably get the formal application materials as soon as your recruiter has a chance you confirm your basic eligibility to apply...basically as soon as they decide to give it to you.
My board met February 12(that week). I'm a Perioperative Nurse. I've been trying since 2016 but I had to get a waiver which took nearly a year to get approved. There is supposed to be a Nurse Corps board on the week of the 15 each month. My recruiter told me I was selected before it was approved by Congress. Your recruiter may let you know by the end of March or they may wait until after Congress approves. Good luck!!!

Haha same! I'm ready to get started with the Navy. Yes I applied active duty for ED/Trauma. Do you know if recruiters are still working during the shut down? I'm afraid I won't be able to get in contact with my recruiter until after the shut down is resolved
