activated charcoal

Does anyone have any suggestions to remove charcoal from a white scrub top? :angryfire My favorite one I must say :o Only a few spots but enough to ruin it. Don't know why I didn't wear navy that night!!!

Course there is alway black dye, then the rest of it will match the charcoal portion.

Charcoal+scrubs=trash. There isnt anything in my may years of emergency medical care that anyone I know has been able to get it out.

rj:rolleyes:

LOL My feelings exactly. I have tried everything but dying the top. Looks like that is the next step.

Thanks for the replies all!!! Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. Have not been on-line much the last few days.

WAIT A MINUTE BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO DYE THAT TOP!! I have found the cheapest miracle cleaner ever! It's called Bar Keepers Friend. It's in a can like Comet, but you can get it at your local Dollar General or Family Dollar store-or Wal-Mart. Just make a paste with some water and rub it in on the stains. Let it sit for a bit. Wash it. If that doesn't do it, I always wash my whites in alot of bleach but keep the lid open for an hour or two so it has time to soak.

Bar Keepers Friend is also awesome for cleaning carpets (which I just did a couple days ago), stainless steal sinks, bathtubs, car chrome, or anything else you can think of. It is non-abrasive so I use it for everything. It costs about 1.50 or less-depending on where you get it.

Have you already washed you top? Did you use cold or hot water? I have been spattered with activated charcoal a few times as an ER nurse and have gotten this out with cold water / soap at work or whatever laundry detergent is on hand at home with cold water. Hot water will set stains and will make it impossible to get out.

Hope this helps - but if not, food for thought if this happens again.

I love this thread. I don't know why...I just do..LOL!!!!!!!

Ok...carry on folks

(as everyone says...ooooooooookay Z ..go to bed now ..lol)

Always wear it with pride

In Canada there is a product called Tilex for cleaning bathroom tile. I used it as a last resort although I was nervous it would eat through the fabric. Then again , the uniform was unwearable if I didn't get the stain out. Tilex removed the stain completely and didn't harm the fabric.

Really? Tilex takes out activated charcoal? Will file this away for future use...

Will attest to Hydrogen peroxide taking out blood though. The key to that though is to not let the stain dry. While at work, change into other scrubs, and let your bloody ones soak in water (mix in some peroxide too, if you've got it on hand). Then when you get home, dunk them in peroxide again, and let them sit until all the blood is out. Then wash in COLD water to make sure that any last little bits left that are virtually undetectable don't get set in.

The best thing that I have found is to use powder Cascade in you washer. Just a 1/4 cup gete out anything of whites. I work in a ED an I have had about everything you can think of sprayed, threw spit on mine and this has not failed me yet.
