All this talk about baby boomers delaying retirement and younger nurses wondering if they will ever be able to retire ?
How about an Action Plan for nurses planning to be working in their 70's.
I'll start ....
Don't get sick (won't be able to afford getting sick)
- weight bearing exercise
- don't forget about calcium, vit D and osteoporosis
- no smoking, minimal alcohol
- regular screening for the big killers and disablers

I already started this. Lost 65 pounds the last part of nursing school, have 45 more to go.
Also working on advanced nursing degrees. I won't be able to swing a hammer my whole life.
My plan is to NOT work until my 70s, got the 401K going at both jobs, ROTH IRA and hubbie and I try to live below our means. I watched my parents struggle their whole lives, my dad in his 60s still works two jobs. I plan on enjoying my retirement and am taking steps now to help that happen. Of course "God willin' and the creek don't rise"
This... My husband is in the military and we can't count on me having a reliable career right now. We move to a new place and I may or may not get a job right away or otherwise. I have spent the last 2 years with no full-time work. Thankfully we only count on my husband's pay. When we take on debt it is with the understanding that we can carry it under only one paycheck. We live a good life, but we don't have all the "toys" that some of our other friends have. We also don't have the stress that they have when we have to move, once again, three years later. So we put any money I make in savings, college, and retirement.
I do know that we are very fortunate to live like this.
