My husband just got stationed in Italy and I had to move out here with my family. I just realized my acls will soon expire! How can I renew overseas? Or what are my options?

An online course.

Just be aware that many facilities here in the US won't accept an online ACLS course; they want a hands-on course. I have no idea about Italy, of course. Good luck!

Is he military? I believe Italy has two Army bases, Germany has several Army/Air bases. (Germany is gorgeous, you really want to visit anyway!!) You could see if you can take ACLS at one of the military hospitals or clinics. Or take the AHA class online and get someone from an American Army/AF hospital or clinic to do the in-person checkoff.
Otherwise, will you be working in Italy? If not, why not just let it lapse and recertify when you actually need it for work? I worked in a SNF -- in between ICU and LTACH jobs. I needed it for ICU and LTAC, but obviously not for SNF. I just took the class when the LTACH paid for it. No biggie.
Enjoy Italy!!

You're in luck. American Heart is actually international - I discovered this when I was validating training on a nurse who last worked in another country. HERE is a list of contact people who can provide you with more information. FYI, AHA approved ACLS re-cert is actually available online, but you have to do the hands-on portion with a smart manikin.
You're ruining my vacation plans HouTx!

There are many for profit schools offering ACLS accreditation, and most hospitals in your area will offer it as well. Be proactive about finding a class sooner rather than later. Perhaps some international nurses will have ideas about recertification in Europe, although I would think you'd have to be able to communicate in the language of the country in which you take it.

Agree. There are Naval Hospitals in Naples and Sigonella in Italy (if thats where he's stationed). Both have ED's so would absolutely have an ACLS program. If he is military and you have access to base I'm sure if you talked with their program director you could get it renewed. My question is: Do you really need it right now? Its not the end of the world if it expires, its a 2-day course to certify as a provider. Are you going to be working a job in Italy that requires it? If not just wait and certify again when you need it.
