ACLS help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just graduated in July took my test August 5th and got a hospital that I rotated at I felt so lucky to have a job so fast. But today was my first day of orientation and they told me you don't have an ACLS card we signed you up for the class on August 27th. 0.o holey tar I don't know what to do they said study this book you should be ok. I took the practice test in the provider manual and got an 86 without even looking at the book is the real test just like the one on the website of where you place the access code? Because if it is I think I might be ok I mean it's more looking for what looks right. Is there any advice that can be given? I am a very quiet person and don't speak up much or talk real loud and one of my coworkers said I would most likely do badly in the mega code because I don't "voice up" as she said. Any advice I feel like my brain is going to fall out of my head there is so much to do any I have the rest of my orientation the 21, 22,23,24,25 and the 26th of this week so it does not really give me time to study so any advice from people who have just taken it I would greatly appreciate it. .

During your mega code, which is just one scenario they pick at random from the instructor guide, you direct your "team". Start with the ABCs and go from there. The class is two days, and they take you through all of the stations, with practice at each one, quite a few times. Learn your drugs, and get the basics of your rhythms down. You'll do fine.
abells 15 Posts Aug 20, 2013 Oh see I was told it just a one day class offered by the hospital I work for. its 8 am to 5 pm I just I think I am more worried about passing the actual test that I am the mega code.

The one day is for renewals. An exception would be if you did the online portion first, including the test, then came only for the skills check off. If that is what you are doing you will have MOST of the hard work over with before you get to the class. The requirement is for review, practice and demonstration during the live portion.
abells 15 Posts Aug 20, 2013 AHAHAHAHAH I will have to ask about this tomorrow they said it was only one day and a class of 4 not including the instructor to get it all done in that time frame test and the mega code and all the fun stuff. -_- oh what to do what to do.

Assuming you get in the right course: go to class, be an active participant, study the book - rhythms & algorithms - and you should be fine.
abells 15 Posts Aug 20, 2013 I will have to ask but the form I was given states its just a day long. I gotten messages saying its a lot like the practice/ pre test is a lot like the test you take in class is this true
snapshot 11 Posts Aug 20, 2013 I just had the exact same thing happen to me, and I passed. If you want to chat about it, let me know and I can send you my email or something. You'll be fine, though--I agree with the others about what to do. Good luck!

Are you afraid that having passed this (which you will and as apparently all their new hires have) you will be thrust into the role of running codes every week? Trust me, this will not occur. Get over yourself. :) What to do? Isn't it completely obvious? You go to the class, listen without panic just like everyone else, and get on with things. Honest to god, chill out.
