Hi there, I am a school nurse and am working towards my initial licensure, I have completed the Mtel, and all of the conferences mandated in Massachusetts. I'm currently enrolled in an online university that is CCNE accredited. I am trying to figure out if my BSN will be accepted towards my licensure. A peer in my program said that Massachusetts DESE does not accept CCNE accredited schools. I am curious to see if any Massachusetts school nurses have attended a BSN that is CCNE accredited. I just can't believe that I am more than halfway done and it will not be accepted, I will be devastated thank you

Can I assume then you have your associates and are working towards your BSN to become DESE certified? I don't know if I can speak to the CCNE credits, but DESE can be so very hard to get in touch with! A few folks have recommended trying to visit them in person. This is time of the year they process a lot of pending applications (my own just came through last month), and don't always answer phones.
The physical location is in Malden, MA if you are near/in Boston.
If the OP is talking about the DESE in MA it is actually about school nurses. DESE is the the department of elementary and secondary education.OP, are you trying to get certified in MA as school nurse? Or am I misunderstanding?
See my note... I orig thought it should be moved then realized the error of my ways...LOL!
Oh OP how stressful for you to have to worry about that after all your hard work. I wish I had the answer. I am currently a the beginning of the process to get my DESE certification. Went to my fist training in May and heading to another one in June. MTEL is June 27th... Good luck and really hoping you get good news. And yes, DESE is not easy to get a hold of or work with...they remind me of the RMV:banghead:
I do not think it matters where you got your BSN from, just that you have it.
As far as DESE is concerned, they may answer an email. And YES, they are a total nightmare to deal with over the phone. I ended up going there and got great service in person! Just keep track of EVERYTHING you send them, they tend to lose things as they have so many people to deal with. It is crazy!
Good luck!

Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone knew if Dese in Massachusetts accepts BSN's from CCNE schools? Freaking out because someone told me my program wouldn't be accepted because it was CCNE. I tried calling to Dese and it was a nightmare, thinking I may get some help from allnurses... thanks!
