hi, I got accepted to QCC and NCC and still confused about which to choose. Does anyone have any information about the program in the school and the passing rate? I will graetly appreciate it and help me in my selection. Thanks

I got accepted to QCC as well. The nursing department just launched their virtual hospital which I think is a big plus. I have heard nothing but positive feedback from graduates of this program. I don't have any information for you on the pass rate but I know in interviewing some graduates and current student, I was told that they felt comfortable, ready, when they went into their new jobs. Hope this helps.

Edited to add:

This is what I found on the website:

Queensborough Community College has one of the largest clinical nursing programs in the New York Metropolitan area, and is the main educator of registered nurses in Queens. Each year, a high percentage of recently graduated students pass NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) developed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). 96.6% of Queensborough’s nursing graduates have passed the NCLEX for the first quarter of 2007.

Specializes in Med/ Surg and Orthopedics.

make a checklist of your most important school qualities and compare the two schools. if they are very similar, then which one is a shorter commute.

Specializes in ED, ICU, PACU.

Another thing you may want to consider is where the clinicals are located-which hospitals would be easier to get to during rush hour?

Congratulations. Those schools both have a great reputation. You can't lose with either one.

thanks all, I am going to do my research and pick one by next week.

Hey Laura11,

Congratulations!! That is great. I agree with the other comments that you should weight the pros and cons and most importantly decide which school is most convenient. I go NCC and I think the hospital closest to Queens border is LIJ or Franklin. Of course, these two hospitals are north and south from each other. And they aren't convenient to travel to from Queens. I live near NCC, so I select the hospitals within 15 minutes near my home.

I hope this info helps. If you have any questions, just ask.

thank you, are you in the nursing program? The hospital the evening students will be using is plainview and it is not too far from me

Hi Laura11, You're welcome. Yes, I am in the NCC nursing (day)program. By September, I will be entering my 2nd year and my clinicals is at Plainview. I went there last semester and I like the staff and environment. That's why I decided to go there again and also it's ten minutes away from my house. Just give yourself time to find parking. If you are familiar with the hospital, you'll notice they have a small parking lot.

oh i'm so glad i'm able to get in touch with someone in the program. how is it ?, i hear it is very intense with a lot of careplans to do. I guess it is doable. You are living proof !. let me know, and thanks again , you don't know how happy to hear frm someone in the program.

Hey. I feel that the first semester was relatively easy. But there is a lot of reading. For the exam you have to read ALL the text assigned in order to do well. From 2nd semester forward, there are careplans due every week which is pretty intensive. There is still a lot of reading and probably about 5 exams. Because of the exams there is barely enough time to study. So there is a lot of cramming.

If you do all the reading, pay attention in class and clinicals, also do NCLEX questions, you will do fine. You just need to put in the time, it is possible to do well. :balloons:;)

thanks again, iam already psyching myself up. i just got the book, so i'll start on my reading .
