Acceptance Rate/GPA

Has anyone gotten accepted into their nursing program with a 3.0 gpa or lower and a “C” in A&P1? Haven’t taken A&P2 yet. But just asking around. Very nervous about my chances of getting into the program.

My school's minimum GPA was 2.7 but people with 3.4s weren't getting in. They also don't accept below a C+ for the pre-reqs. This isn't across the board though, so I would look into which schools you're applying to and see what their requirements and typical applicant looks like. Good luck

Most universities/community colleges have a min requirement ranging from 2.8-3.2 gpa. However the candidates who apply typically apply with gpas ranging from 3.4-4.0 which causes the programs to have a cutoff that can fall within that range. I recommend doing your best to get A's from now on to stay competitive and research what programs you want to apply to, to see just how competitive they are and past gpa cutoffs. Good luck!!

The GPA requirements for the school I go to is above a “C” in A&P1&2 and a GPA of 2.75 or higher.

From what I saw with my applications, I think GPA can take backseat to life experience, I was accepted into the two nursing programs I applied - one of which I was well below the posted GPA requirements (Mt. Sinai Hospital's Philips in NYC), and the other which has a reputation for being competitive (NYU) but posts no GPA requirements. My undergrad cumulative GPA was 2.7.

On the plus side for me, I'd started a successful business after dropping out of my original undergrad program. And when I went back to complete my prerequisites I earned an A or A+ in all of them as well as became a working NYC EMT (albeit part time) to start gaining experience in medicine.

Correlation between career success and grades earned in school is almost nonexistent, and I think college admin boards know this. (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/08/opinion/college-gpa-career-success.html) Colleges want students who will become successful nurses. With a poor GPA you have to, through some other means show them that not only are you dedicated completely to becoming a nurse (with or without them), but you are able to be successful in something that you pursue (since they would assume school wasn't it).

Our entrance was based solely on grades and the TEAS. I had a 4.0 GPA and scored in the 88th percentile on the TEAS entrance exam, and was still put on a wait list. It's going to vary greatly program to program.

At the school where I attend the lowest gpa to get in was a 2.0! However, they do take into account teas scores, gpa, and classes you took at the university. Don’t give up hope just yet!

They wouldn't list a minimum if they weren't willing to accept people at that minimum. Almost every school looks at way more than your GPA. Every other part of your application matters.

lowest entry gpa in my cohort was a 3.79

Usually before applying it is a requirement that both a&p 1&2 be done and for my school micro before the third semester. I think it would be hard for them to base an acceptance on just half of the info.

My program required a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum of 80% score in all pre-reqs to apply. Average incoming gpa was 3.85.

Even if your school is okay with a "C" I'd recommend potentially retaking the course. Having a solid A&P foundation makes a big difference to understanding material in nursing school.
