Hi- This is my first post here, I found you guys on google and you all seemed really nice and informative.
I am in a bit of a predicament, this is a long post I'm sorry but I need some expertise advice.
I applied to Stony Brook for the Accelerated Program Starting in 2008, here were my pre-reqs:
Microbio: B-
A&P1: B
A&P2: In progress
Chem 1: C
Other Science: C+
Overall Gpa 2.76 ( I have a 3.6 from another school but they dont add them both together unfortunately )
I had my application in on time, printed out the date sheet, but there was a snafu with the wrong dates on the website, and I didnt get my references in on time, I ultimately got denied.
I want to make sure I get accepted this time around. I just graduated from Stony Brook and here are my current stats:
Microbio: B-
A&P1- B
A&P2 B+
Chem1: C
Other Science: A
(this gives a 3.0 average on the sciences)
I have also raised my GPA to 3.4, not including my 3.6 gpa from my transfer school
So my question is: I know that Stony Brook's program is extremely competitive, what do I need to do to get accepted?! I know that my Chem grade isn't the greatest, but I really do not want to take it again as I really struggled through it the first time at Stony Brook. Do you think that the C will really make or break me and I should retake it? I have to work full time all summer, so I would have to retake it online through a community college - do you think that if I simply had excellent references and personal statements my chem grade would be overlooked? I don't want to put myself into jeopardy because of one grade.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated, I am having an internal struggle, because my heart really isn't in retaking chemistry
I just got my letter yesterday. Being an alternate is like being on the waitlist. They however wont give me much information at all about where I am on the list and my chances of getting in. So I figured Id post here and maybe see if someone knew anything more about it!? I had a 3.5 overall GPA and a 3.7 in the prerequisites. I didnt have healthcare experience but did have volunteer experience in other areas. You are still waiting on a letter?
Daisie, I went to the open house and they said they go through almost all of thier waiting list between people dropping out, not being able to afford it or not getting requirements. They also said some years they get additional funding at the last minute and admit more people. They said to make sure you still get any pending pre-reqs done because they call people up until the day before classes start. Good Luck!! Hope to see you in june!
Wow that gives me alot of hope! The women I got on the phone was not nice! She was basically like they will call you and hung up! I have all my prereqs done. Thank goodness. I also had to do a background check, completed the BLS CPR course, and had full titers done because I will start Suffolk in Feb just in case this doesnt work out. Unfortunately I cant afford to do any of the other accelerated programs. Does SB require anything more than that to start? Thank you all for the responses!
Daisie - Just everything you mentioned above and the physical.
nwa - My solar changed prob a week or so before I recieved my acceptance letter and it looks like almost everyone who's tabs changed did get in. Check out: 'Stony Brook U ABSN - Summer 2010 Applicants
You can follow everyone obsessing! I think I listed all of my stats on one of the boards if you are curious.
