Hi everyone,
I'm making this thread to see if anyone else is applying to Umass Amherst for fall 2017 acclerated nursing program?
Apparently I wasn't getting updates when people was posting. I apologize for the late reply. I am an umass alunmi. I went there for my undergrad I talk to someone in cpe office and they sent me a email stating no interview will be conducted this cycle. I'm not sure why. I think we should be hearing back soon
How many classes are there in a semester? Also, ideally how much money should be saved up in terms of moving over there? I would be living off of school loans so I was just wondering. And how long after you start or before do you get your redone check-- in terms of being able to pay your rent.
Well most of the loans you're taking out will more than likely be private loans, depending on how much you've taken out for your previous degree. Since it's a second bachelors program the only financial aid you will qualify for is a loan, no grants or any "free money", expect nothing from UMass because that's what everyone gets.
Look up apartment prices for the area, connect with people that are admitted (create a FB page) and find roommates. The tuition is around $30,000 for just classes. People who cannot live with family are spending between $700-1,000 on rent per month as well as other expenses. The startup cost is a little high, you need a stethoscope, uniforms, textbooks etc so have a few hundred for all that before the program starts because you may need it before your loan money comes which can be up to three weeks after classes start. So you will also need to have first months rent, last and security for most places not come from loan money because it won't be around at that point.
As for classes, here is the current plan of study but t is subject to change. Accelerated BS in Nursing Plan of Study | College of Nursing
thanks sara94 for sharing!
I am just curious but what facilities do the ABSM students do their clinicals? there's no specifics on the site or curriculum. also, do the undergraduate bsn and absn share the same locations? do you have a mentor or do they encourage students to find their own?
