ABSN CSULA Summer 2018

Published

Hello ALL!

I wanted to start a topic about ABSN program at CSULA for Summer 2018 and get some feedback about applying, stats, and more. I am looking to apply here and to other similar programs and I wanted feedback about your experiences.

Hey All,

Just discovered this website!

I turned in my app in person on the 9th (talk about cutting it close), and got a confirmation email that they had all my necessary documents the same day. Was invited in for an interview via email on January 20th. It doesn't give any specifics on what to expect other than that it will last about an hour and to bring something to take notes with - it didn't even mention a writing sample so I'm not sure if that is going to happen. Does anyone know if it's a group interview? Or how many people get invited vs how many are accepted?

Thanks!

I was told by Kathleen during an advising appointment that to be competitive you should really be in the 90th percentile in each of the 4 categories. Obviously, there are other things that play into being competitive - experience I think would trump scores that are under 90. I believe you have to be over 75 though in order to be eligible.

The interviews are individual with the program coordinator. It says in the application information packet that there will be an in person writing sample which will take place on the day of the interview. Past cohorts have said they spend between 1 and 1.5 hours there between the interview and the writing sample and generally 50 people get interviews and 30 get accepted.

When is the interview? Trying to see how close they are starting. Congratulations.

Thank you! I was given the option of 2/3, 2/5, and 2/10. A friend of mine was given fewer time slot options but the same dates.

Man it's got to feel good. I wish I got an invite.

Man... This is all making me so nervous! No interview yet.

What are your stats? I was in the 80's for two sections of my teas but 99th overall. I also don't have prior experience other than volunteering in the hospital so I am starting to think I'm not what they are looking for.

My last name starts with an A...maybe that's why I heard quickly?

It's doubtful. I'm sure you heard first because you are one of the top applicants :)

Hi All,

Good to hear that some of you have gotten invites already! Congratulations!.

I had a 97% percentile on TEAS, mostly As and a few Bs on prerequisites, have 10 years of medical experience...but I didn't send all my materials in one packet (due to my being out of the country at the time) as they prefer.

According to the Prasanna, one of the ABSN coordinators, not sending them all in one packet can delay processing by several weeks, because it all goes to CSULA main admissions. Then, CSULA have to open it up and THEN hand it over to the school of nursing.

So, as of now, I have not received email confirmation that my packet is complete.

Apparently, people can get invites to interviews anytime from January to end of March!! So to everyone who hasn't gotten an invite, hang in there!

My stats are similar. 99th percentile overall, but 80s for two sections. I have some prior experience, but my overall GPA is under 3.5 ... That's what's worrying me. I also wonder if the process has something to do with last names because a lot of people mention that in previous years. My last name starts with a W ... but I'm just remaining hopeful because it's not February yet. Let's try to be positive! :)
