Hello ALL!
I wanted to start a topic about ABSN program at CSULA for Summer 2018 and get some feedback about applying, stats, and more. I am looking to apply here and to other similar programs and I wanted feedback about your experiences.
Share!
I got the rejection email too. This is the only program I applied to. I applied to the Summer semester of the University as instructed but didn't get the interview. My total teas scores at 97 percentile, all As of Science courses, GPA 3.72 prerequisites. 3.8 undergrad. Currently doing the volunteer job as a COPE health scholar.
They told me this year is the most competitive year( maybe they're trying to comfort me).
Now I have to think about what to do next.
I have 3 options, and I need some advices.
1, Apply to other ABSN programs, but they're all much more expensive and far away from me.
2, Transfer to cal state university, but the regular nursing program is 3 years( such long time)
3, Go to the community college ADN program, become RN in two years, then I can go with RN to BSN program while I work as a RN. It will take another 2 years though.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I'm thinking #3 might be your best option if you're not able to apply to other ABSN programs in socal like CSUSM, CSUF, Mount Saint Mary's, or Concordia (maybe even CSUN for spring 2019) due to expense/distance. I would suggest apply to all the CCs in or near Los Angeles. This was going to be my route if I didn't get into any ABSN schools.
Have you considered Western Governors? I think their classes are online but the clinicals are on site. It takes 2.5 years to complete though.
I'm really sorry that you didn't get in, and good luck with applying to other schools!
San Marcos is on rolling admission, so you can apply whenever. I thought about applying there, but decided not to.
If I don't get into the last ABSN program I applied to, I'll probably go the ADN route. I have a few coworkers who have done that and they did an online RN to BSN program and finished it within a year while working at a hospital!
Although, I am really hoping that CSUN brings back their ABSN program for Spring 2019 as @cookiemishy mentioned.
Hey angie155! The link provides more information about the ABSN program CSUSM deadlines: How to Apply |CSUSM
I didn't get into CSULA either, but I got into the summer program at CSUSM, so its worth a try! :)
@joanna_ congrats on an acceptance at CSUSM! Did you interview at CSULA?

No, I did not receive an interview But, I'm sure the people that interviewed for the CSULA program will have a high chance of getting into the CSUSM program. You do not need any rec letters or letter of intent. And the application process is way easier! And you can call their office anytime and they'll answer all your questions through the phone/email.
When did you apply @joanna_ to CSUSM? Congrats !!!
I applied early December for the Summer 2018 cohort, but I didn't submit all my transcripts until early January. I sent some of the transcripts at a later date because I was taking physio in the fall. I was still considered and accepted for their Summer 2018 cohort! :) So I suggest you apply now and send your transcripts as fast as you can.
So sorry to hear that! Did you get an interview? Your stats are very competitive and you're in Cope which KH loves and recommends. If there are still ABSN programs you can apply to I'd do it if you are able...I wish I were in the position to move, but that's not an option with my personal life right now. As far as the CSULA regular BSN program is concerned, the deadline was at the same time as this program, so you'd have to wait until Fall 2019 to begin (this is the issue I'm running into now too...wish I had applied to both at this point). A lot of the ADN programs are still open, but many are lottery driven so there's no guarantee of anything but you'd start in the fall and it's two years (many also have cohorts that start in the spring too)...then start working while doing the RN to BSN online - financially and time-wise that seems like the best option if you have to stay local. It really sucks having to go that route, but I'm sure you don't want to waste any time getting into the field!
Side question: which hospital are you at for Cope? I'm at CHMC!
Thank you so much for your opinion:D
I didn't get an interview. Maybe it's due to my lack of experiences.
Doesn't CSULA have the regular BSN program for spring admission too? If I have to wait until Fall 2019 I may consider the rest of my options first. I have searched for all the ABSN programs in California. Here is a link about it, but the CSUN doesn't have ABSN program now.https://hpa.ucdavis.edu/docs/resources_assets/California%20Programs/ABSN%20Programs%20in%20California%20Rev.11.28.pdf
Mt St Mary and Azusa Pacific are close to me, but they are so expesive(about $80000). Concordia's has two prerequisites that I have to take, plus it's like 50 minutes away from me. Also the rent there is expensive. I am considering applying to CSUSM, but just think about that I have to move to that area:(
Why did you say that many of the ADN programs are lottery driven?
Yes I can't wait to get into the area. People told me it was way easier to be a nurse 20 years ago haha
To answer your side question, I'm at the White Memorial Medical Center.
I hope that you will get the acceptance call soon! Your GPA and experiences are really competitive, and I can see that you're a nurse material. You are warmhearted, passionate and care about people! If they don't choose you,I don't know what they are looking for then.

:happy:Thank you for sharing me your views!
The programs at CCs are really competitive too (from what I have heard). Do you consider that going with ADN programs a better choice than transferring to a regular BSN program?

Just have a figure out how much time you want to wait to start a program/how long you want the program to take! You will for sure hit the cut score at CCs and usually it's a lottery, so it's best to apply to as many as possible to give yourself a better chance!

That's great! Also keep an eye out for CSUN's ABSN program for spring 2019. The program is still on hiatus and is pending CSU Chancellor's Office approval, but you never know!
