ABSN CSULA Summer 2018

Published

Hello ALL!

I wanted to start a topic about ABSN program at CSULA for Summer 2018 and get some feedback about applying, stats, and more. I am looking to apply here and to other similar programs and I wanted feedback about your experiences.

Share!

I'm really sorry to hear that as well. I wish you the best with other schools. Have you looked into Cal State San Marcos ABSN program? They have 3 cohorts per year and their requirements are similar to Cal State LA's.

3 cohorts a year?!? Dang! I wish all schools were like that (at least some that are closer to LA).

Yea but they wanted biochem and ochem and j didn't take those courses. And the community colleges in my area don't offer biochem and it would be $10,000 at a cal state to take because it is a 2 semester/part class

This is from their FAQ:

"4. WHAT CHEMISTRY COURSES WILL ARTICULATE, OR BE EQUIVALENT, TO YOUR CHEM 105 AND CHEM 105L?

Articulation agreements with local Community Colleges for the Pre-Nursing Core are available on the Assist Web site. Select Cal State San Marcos from the first drop-down menu, select the Community College you wish to attend from the second drop-down menu, choose Select By Major, and then select Nursing from the list of majors. If an integrated chemistry course with a lab that covers inorganic, organic and biochemistry, is not available at your institution, ideally we are looking for a General Chemistry course with lab (not an Intro to General Chemistry) or an Organic Chemistry course with lab."

I think what they ideally want is an integrated course. I applied here also at the last minute in addition to CSULA and NYU, and I only took a General Chemistry course. I haven't asked anyone at San Marcos directly, but I think a General Chemistry course should be sufficient.

@angie155 I got my rejection email too. :( You should apply to Concordia's program in Irvine! It's a bit pricier than CSULA, but it's 15 months as well. They have a fall cohort and the application is due by June 1st. I just interviewed last week for their summer cohort.

And congrats to everyone else who got offers or will get offers! If you haven't heard anything yet, probably means you're on a waiting list!

Sorry to hear that @bruin2012, but I'm glad the ball is already rolling elsewhere! Did you interview at Cal State LA? Can't remember if you said you had or not previously. Hopefully Irvine isn't far for you!

Nooo, I didn't get an interview. It is far, but I would move! :)

Do you know what the deadline to apply was ? To San Marcos ?

Hey angie155! The link provides more information about the ABSN program CSUSM deadlines: How to Apply |

CSUSM

I didn't get into CSULA either, but I got into the summer program at CSUSM, so its worth a try! :)

I got the rejection email too. This is the only program I applied to. I applied to the Summer semester of the University as instructed but didn't get the interview.

My total teas scores at 97 percentile, all As of Science courses, GPA 3.72 prerequisites. 3.8 undergrad. Currently doing the volunteer job as a COPE health scholar.

They told me this year is the most competitive year( maybe they're trying to comfort me).

Now I have to think about what to do next.

I have 3 options, and I need some advices.

1, Apply to other ABSN programs, but they're all much more expensive and far away from me.

2, Transfer to cal state university, but the regular nursing program is 3 years( such long time)

3, Go to the community college ADN program, become RN in two years, then I can go with RN to BSN program while I work as a RN. It will take another 2 years though.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The fall 2018 priority deadline was 3/16/18. Maybe that means that you can still apply?

So sorry to hear that! Did you get an interview? Your stats are very competitive and you're in Cope which KH loves and recommends.

If there are still ABSN programs you can apply to I'd do it if you are able...I wish I were in the position to move, but that's not an option with my personal life right now. As far as the CSULA regular BSN program is concerned, the deadline was at the same time as this program, so you'd have to wait until Fall 2019 to begin (this is the issue I'm running into now too...wish I had applied to both at this point). A lot of the ADN programs are still open, but many are lottery driven so there's no guarantee of anything but you'd start in the fall and it's two years (many also have cohorts that start in the spring too)...then start working while doing the RN to BSN online - financially and time-wise that seems like the best option if you have to stay local. It really sucks having to go that route, but I'm sure you don't want to waste any time getting into the field!

Side question: which hospital are you at for Cope? I'm at CHMC!

I wasn't able to click on that one on the cal state apply website but the spring one is open and the deadline is 8/8/2018 :) but I am going to call in Monday to talk to someone about the program and order my transcripts now lol
