abington hospital dixon school of nursing

Published

Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone out there has applied to early admission for fall 2010 to abington hospital dixon school of nursing?

Hey everyone, i ordered my books as well and am trying to get everything done too...hopefully you are all right that it just looks like alot. I graduate from Manor in May and then I am taking Tech Math there in the summer....just to refresh my math and get acquainted with calculations. I am also E/W...can't wait to meet you all!

Hi Prcnesslauer,

I wonder if we had classes together at Manor cause I just finished in Dec. Can't wait to see you there. I registered for the CPR class as well like Jo'ee , I'm taking the 7/31 class. Still waiting for my books though. I would have liked to take the Tech Math but they weren't offering it at the time, so I hope I'm ok. I did well in Alegebra so Im hoping I retained it all.

Mommi97,

We probably did have courses together. I have been at Manor since Fall '07...it took me longer to finish because I work full-time and I'm a single mom. Just glad I'm finally graduating. I was looking at the CPR schedule and probabaly need to take a Saturday class as well, but I am already certified by AHA, so I think I just need to renew my certification...but I am going to ask them when I call tomorrow. I took Stats last semester and did well, in my interview with Dixon they mentioned the Techinal Math to me and how they recommend students to take it, its not mandatory. But they were the ones that told me about the course at Manor...so I figured why not...I'll do whatever I can to learn.

Mommi97,

Don't worry about the technical math if you can't get it in. I looked the calculations book for n100 over and it really is not a hard concept to learn. It is a book about dimensional analysis, which is just a way to do a calculation. In the drug calc class I already took, dimensional analysis was only a smart part of the class and it was rediculously easy. So don't sweat it.

did you get out and get your shoes?

I am wondering what kind I should get. I spent the day in the mall yesterday (something I never do) and boy were my dogs tired when I got home. So I am hoping to find a pair of shoes to help my feet not hurt during the long hours of clinicals. Any suggestions?

Jo'ee,

I didn't get out to get the shoes , but I did call my friend who works at Abington and she said go to Slon Uniforms next to the Payless store in Abington, she said they have all that stuff in there, stethoscopes too. Im concerned cause Im having surgery in about 2 weeks on my knee and I need really good shoes too, we have to have white nursing or sneakers it says but I rather have comfortable ugly white nursing , I am not there for fashion, if I'm going to be on my feet all day. I really just want my books right now so I can start looking at everything! Says they shipped but it can take up to 10 days to get here so im hoping this week sometime.

Prncess,

Yep I work full time also and am a single mom as well, feels good to know I'm not alone!! I feel like it's taken me forever to get here, I wanted to be in last year but the birth of my child sort of set me back a little bit. I have 4 kids(1,7,9,12). I'm a little nervous because I know the next two years are going to be tough, but everyone I know who is a nurse now says the adult students who come through always seem to do the best because they have more of a purpose. I hope they are right!

As for CPR I am certified also but he told me I had to retake it because the one for Health Professionals is different and the fact I am going to need it for two years, I couldn't even just take an recert he said I had to take the whole thing.

Does anyone get accepted if they are still working on the perquisites? I hope to attend the E/W program beginning in 2011. I have to take A&P II in the Fall 2010 and Micro in January 2011.

Thanks for any input!

This is what their site says for Early Decision

Reviews will be conducted on those with a minimum of five of the nine prerequisite college courses completed, two of which must be science courses.

This is where you can find the info!

Got my books today! Finally!!! Now I can start stressing about the material to be completed....haha. I was shocked at how much the book weighs I hope I dont have to carry that thing around with me everywhere. 17xx pages is alot of pages for a book at least it looks interesting though.

thanks for your reply mommi97.

i read that info on the website. i did take chemistry last semester and i'm currently taking ap i. so the only other prerequisites will be ap ii (taking in the fall 2010) and micro (taking in spring 2011). my gpa is 3.6.

after reading the posts about perquisites, i got a little nervous about being put on a waiting list.

Well to make you feel better I have heard of people being accepted even they weren't fully finished and as long as you complete the classes I belive by Regular Decision which is Feb 2011 which it sounds to me like you will be, from what I was told if you are planning to complete the classes after the Feb 2011 date you stand a higher chance of being wait listed because they take the students first that have completed and passed the pre-reqs. I asked because I was in a similar situation and then I decided to just take the summer off I was pregnant and not push myself too hard and apply for the following year, which now looking back was the better decision in the end.

If you dont mind me asking what school are you going to for your Pre-Req's? As for your GPA it is very good so dont worry bout that part. Is it at all possible to take your Micro and APII in the same semester?? Remember you still need to take the TEAS test as well and they need to have those results by the General Decision date. Meaning you will need to take it prob around Dec. (I wasn't aware of that and took it just in the nick of time!)

Hi mommi97,

I'm taking classes at Bucks County Community College. I could try to take A&P II in the summer, but was warned against it. I plan on taking the TEAS in September. How was the TEAS test? Did you purchase the online study guide? Thanks for your advice :o)
