AAARRRGGGGHHH!! Stupid cell phones!

Published

Why is it that people insist on carrying their cells on the floor? They ring and they feel that they must answer it and carry on a conversation. That's why I pay for voice mail! If there's an emergency that absolutely demands my attention, (death, fire, disaster,) my family has my work number. There's one CNA with a company issued cell because she's a driver. Other than that, it's highly innappropriate.

I think cell phones should be banned from the workplace. It isolates the user from the residents they are caring for. The other night a CNA was on the phone walking up the hall, and I called to her to ask her something and she held up her hand for me to "wait a minute" because she was in the middle of a conversation!!! :angryfire

And i tell you something else that annoyed the **** out of me. Here we are, out at a nice peaceful breakfast on Saturday morning, and some weenie pulls his phone out and starts a 'Nextel' conversation. You know, the two way communication thing? So for a solid 5 minutes i heard that annoying "bleeeeeep!" then he would talk, "bleeeep!" then he'd get a reply. Out loud, very rude, annoying, etc. I finally looked over and said, "Excuse me, sir, that's disruptive". He looked ticked, but ya know, the door was over on the left.....

I don't want to have a cell phone. I got a certificate in the mail offering me a free cell phone and other free cell phone services. I threw it in the trash.

Thank goodness several of our Nursing Homes now make it a strict rule that cell phones/walkmans/headphones etc are never to be carried whilst on duty - the only person carrying a cell phone is the nurse in charge on nights, and this is only because there is usually one RN on duty in the whole complex. That cell phone can send and receive calls from the complex extensions and can be used for outside calls but woe betide anyone who missuses it! All called numbers are automatically recorded with date and time on the monthly bill! Yes BAN them.

we have a problem at work. the cells phone ringing isn't an issue. the text messaging is. All the nurses and aides text each other all night long. The charge nurses does it also. The DON is aware of it, but it is hard to inforce something when she isn't there at that time of the evening. It is enough to make me scream. They are doing it in front of family members, and the residents. It just not right at all. I wish sometimes they never invented cell phones. And yes i have one but mine itsn't on me at work.:angryfire

Staff at my facility are allowed to use them on their breaks only. They are not allowed to carry them while they are on the floor. I have supervisors who enforce this policy on all shifts. That being said, I always allow staff to use the desk phone to check on husbands, children, etc.:)

Not to mention when people are driving and are not paying attention to the road while they are on cell phones. ARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!! I almost got hit by a driver who was yakking on the cell phone and not paying attention to the road!!!!

Last week, I witnessed a fender bender in the parking lot of the supermarket because some stupid lady talking on her cell pulled out without looking. The clincher, though? She pulled back into her space, and didn't get out to talk to the other driver for about a minute and a half, while she finished her conversation!!!

Ooooohhhh, I started something here didn't I? :) Today I walked by a room and heard a CNA talking on his cell while GIVING PATIENT CARE! I took it out of his hand, stuck it in my pocket and said he'd better be glad it was me that took it away and not the nurse. She would have written him up faster than you could spit. Perhaps that would deter him.

NO cell phone allowed in the bnuilding....period!

I had the same issue as above. I was bathing a patient with the help of the aide, and as her cell phone rang in her pocket, she answered it! With gloves on........ewwwwww. Many issues there. The patient was appalled. I wrote her up.

I carry my cell at work, in my pocket, on vibrate, and use it as a beeper. I am a case manager, and sometimes a floor float. (so the other floors can find me!) That is all, when I step out of a patient room, I then look to see who has called, and call them from the unit I am on.

Ummm, another issue.... how about when I walk into a patients room to administer meds, dsg changes, or answering THEIR call light, and they are on the cell phone. They have gotton a new attitude that I can wait for them! Sometimes if they do tell me is it very important, I will come back. Those with manners say, I will call you back, my nurse is here. If not, they let me do what I have to do, while in chat, and 9 to none, when they are off the phone, they call me back in the room to re-explain what I have already done. Family members do the same. I do what I need to with the patient, while the families are in chat, and they ALWAYS call me back to wonder what instructions I have given to the patient. If they were that concerned, they would get off the phone. As my daughter would say, I donn wike dat.

Oh, and while we are on the subject of cell phones.... My hubby says, let's spend the day together. We plan something cool, going to the French Quarter in the city, walk around, have some daiquiris, some boiled seafood, etc.. and he is on the phone 1/2 of the day. The cell phone is BANNED on our days alone now. It drives me nuts. :uhoh3:
