AAARRRGGGGHHH!! Stupid cell phones!

Published

Why is it that people insist on carrying their cells on the floor? They ring and they feel that they must answer it and carry on a conversation. That's why I pay for voice mail! If there's an emergency that absolutely demands my attention, (death, fire, disaster,) my family has my work number. There's one CNA with a company issued cell because she's a driver. Other than that, it's highly innappropriate.

Who wants to hear an embarassing story!? On our first day at a new clinical location, I brought my cell phone into the bldg (I was going to turn it off b/f we got to the floor) b/c my friend wasn't sure about the directions to the site. So who do I run into, but the person who has a SUPER amout of influence of whether I get hired or not after graduation as were chatting, Madonna's "Material Girl" come blasting out of my pocket! The thing would not turn off!!! I got sooooo flustered....it was HORRIBLE!!! It seemed to go on forever! HORRRRRRIIIIIIIIIBBBBBBBLLLLEEEE. My friend got there just fine, and now the phone stays in the car! OHHHHHH the embarrrasssssment!

I Specifically Tell My Nursing Assistants No Cell Phones Ringing On The Floor. No Phone Calls On The Floor Unless An Emergency. You Can Take/make Calls On Your Break..period.. I'm Not The Most Popular Nurse On The Block, But I Am Not There For That Reason.

Our CNA's constantly are text messaging each other, husbands etc. I hate text messaging whats the point?? Wouldn't it be faster to make the call? Or leave voice mail?? I am thankfull for cell phones esp working a late shift and living out in the middle of nowhere it is a safty issue driving home for me. How ever I keep the ringer off at work. I can check for messages when I go to break!

Everyone seems to have them at my place of work, plastered to their ears. I always wonder...what in the heck is so da*n important that you have to interrupt your work over ...if it is not an emergency. And if it is, they can call you up at the desk like in the good old days. One staff member has one which she keeps in the nursing lounge, which seems to ring off the hook. I just can't understand it. But, then again, I think cell phones are a major waste anyway...so what do I know? And waste...the cost alone is pretty stupid. But, that's just me. Seems like everone has them. I remember being at the mall recently, watching a couple holding hands, walking together but not talking or interacting together. Why?...because they both had their own cell phone plastered to their ears. My thought was...how sad.

I have a cell phone, but I hate them!! When I'm at the library, in class, or at the movies, I turn it off. Also, if I go to place that asks me to turn it off, such as a school, a testing center, or a lecture, I do it. I hate it when people know that they should be turned off, but answer it anyway, and start a convesation. :angryfire I was at a job orientation recently, and one woman not only answered her phone, but she started a conversation while the rest of us were trying to listen to the speaker! Don't their phones have a vibrate function? We don't need to be reachable at every minute of the day. Just twenty years ago, we didn't have cell phones everywhere, but people were able to reach each other at work or school, and were able to conduct business transactions. Plus, based on the conversations that I have been forced to overhear (because they talk so loud), they are not primarily used for emergencies. I've also seen people holding hands, but talking to other people on their cell phones. I think that's sad, too.

We all used to manage very well with life and work before cell phones. Most places I work ban you from walking around with your personal cell phone in your pocket. Yes get an answering service if you must, but do not endanger 'hospital' situations with unnecessary equipment that could divert you from having your full attention at your job.

Totally agree with all - the only thing you may need to carry during working hours could be the pager or chordless phone (on some larger wards/departments) or a cell phone tuned/pre-dialed for the facility that you work in if it is part of your job description.

If I am on call I let the person know at the reception and give them my cell phone to monitor (it has to be very important for me to do this).

Mister Chris :coollook:

cell phones are suppose to be for our convenience but if we are a slave to them and we have t answer them whether it is convenient or not we need to rethink

Well my cell phone happens to be my only phone. Did away with the home wired line almost 2 years ago now. I looked at it from why am I paying double to have both a cell for me and my wife and a phone at home which was only getting used ie needed only 4-5 hrs each evening.

Now some people are going to carry their cell with them all the time as alot of them now are PDA/cell combinations. From being a member of this forum for some time now there prob several hundred members that would no way give these up. BUT on does need to turn off the phone part of the thing.

BASICLY IT COMES DOWN TO COMMON SENSE-- USE IT.
