  1. I think we all have made med errors. I know I have. I try my best to learn from it. One time I had to give 3 units of humolog and it was in the patients box with her name on it. I got it out and drew it up and gave it to her. About 30 minutes later I noticed it was regular insulin in the box. So now I don't go by what the box says anymore. I felt terrible. And it was the first med error I made and I notified the doctor. He asked me what the H..ll do you want me to do about it. That made me feel worse. I continued to monitor her blood sugar all night long after that. So now I slow down and double check everything. Don't beat yourself up or it. Try to learn from it and slow down. We are human. We learn from our mistakes.
  2. I was a CNA for 5 years before I went to nursing school.. I loved it. Yes you have the aides that are worthless. I don't figure myself above the aides cause we are all there for one purpose(patient care.) I try to help my aides out when I get a chance. Most of the time I don't have to worry what the aides are doing cause I know they are doing what they need to be doing. I think my I can understand the aides better since I was there. If you don't treat the aides with respect how are you going to get any in return. There are some nurses that feel they are to good to do peri care. And I feel that is just wrong. Health care is a team effort.
  3. Well I can understand your situation. I am a charge nurse in LTC and i have 60 to 70 patients I am in charge of. Luckily I have 2 med techs and 5 aides. but sometimes when things gets crazy it isn't enough. And can be very stressful. I hope things get better for you.
  4. I did the same thing about 2 months ago. It was the first time I have ever done that. But I work 3-11 and I drive about 40 minutes one way to work. Well I got all the way home and emptied my pockets like I always do and guess what there they was. It wasn't fun. I called work and the nurse didn't need them until 6 in the morning but I am sleeping at that time so I figured do it now while I am wake. :chuckle
  5. I am so sorry you had to go throw that. I had the same experince about a year and half ago. I am a new nurse.. Well I was in nursing school, my uncle was in the hospital with pneumona. Well the doctors said he had lung CA for 8 months before this and never told him or anyone in the family. There was nothing that could be done by the time we found out. My uncle was on medicare/medicad and they just seem to blow him off. We had problems getting pain meds for him. We fought for almost 8 months longer until he passed. He seen me finish nursing school which i was thankful for. We finally put him on hospice and the care they gave and the understanding i was so thankful for. I am really thankful that people love that kind of work. I work in LTC faculity and I love it. If you ever need someone to talk with just email me. I will be more than glad too
  6. In my opinion I will live in Arkansas close to Branson missouri. And I know the beverlys here have a horrible reputation. I have been in LTC for 7 years now. I have been in the faculities and they are dirty and disorganized. Now I really don't know much about other areas. So do some checking. And good luck
  7. we have a problem at work. the cells phone ringing isn't an issue. the text messaging is. All the nurses and aides text each other all night long. The charge nurses does it also. The DON is aware of it, but it is hard to inforce something when she isn't there at that time of the evening. It is enough to make me scream. They are doing it in front of family members, and the residents. It just not right at all. I wish sometimes they never invented cell phones. And yes i have one but mine itsn't on me at work.:angryfire
