Hey everyone, I am a senior in high school and am already accepted into a bsn program in one of the most well know nursing schools in my area. I work in a hospital and deliver trays to patients, and yes I do see the blood and guts. I am on a hospice floor when I work, so I see it all. I am a little worried about the anatomy course because when I took anatomy last year (I did very well and had a 99 on my final) I got a little queasy during some of the parts that were about weird diseases that no longer even exist, and if they do it is a small out break in some small region of Africa. I know my teacher added them to be interesting but it instead caused a lot of us to leave the room. She also included pretty graphic pictures and was extremely descriptive. Does college anatomy include diseases or is that tied in with a pharmacology class? I know that I can force myself to not be bothered by it, but it would be nice to know when that occurs. The nurses at work do not completely remember how college went. Sorry for the length!

You will most likely not study those in anatomy, except if your professor randomly brings it up like mine sometimes does (example: we learned the eye anatomy today and she mentioned conjunctivitis). Those will probably come up more in actual nursing courses or any pathology related classes.

Diseases will be covered when you take pathophysiology. If you are concerned about seeing graphic things you may have to brace yourself for being a nurse.
I can see graphic things. I see them at work. The worst I have seen so far is a pt that had their leg removed and the stitches weren't holding. I'm talking like Africans removing females lady partss with no anesthetic because they have some bizarre ritual.

No you will not cross those fun graphic pictures during AP... well I didn't come across it. As far as I understand, you will go through them more in teh actual nursing courses.
I am currently in pharmacology and we didn't go through any visual images but we discussed how the medications can help cure or slow down the progression of the disease.

I feel really ill seeing pictures of scalded baby syndrome, trachoma, and massive tumors. But my ill feeling makes me want to do something about it, not turn away from it. It probably depends on the teacher, but I can imagine you'll learn about at least one thing in A&P, microbiology, or pathophysiology that will make your stomach turn.

When you say "removing female lady partss", do you mean "female circumcision"? And just FYI there is no "male" lady partss. Female circumcision is a ritual performed more than we know and it is done just so the woman doesn't feels any pleasure since they believe sex is only performed to satisfy the male and with the result of reproduction.
