Hey fellow soon to be new grads and recent grads! Congrats to us for getting so far. :)

I'm curious about the stats here related to new grad job hunts.

1. How many places have you applied so far?

2. How many new grad postings vs. regular postings?

3. How many have you heard from one way or the other?

4. Any job offers yet?

For me...

1. 15 hospitals and 18 jobs

2. 13 new grad, 5 regular postings

3. Five - three outright rejections, one interview and subsequent rejection, and one upcoming interview

4. None yet!

Feel free to come back and update us about any changes, especially if you get some good changes. :) Thanks for giving in to my curiosity!

I think you can add a zero to each number in this poll. It wouldn't be inacurate

just started applying. a hiring manager was at a conference the other day and said that as a soon to be a new grad, i should have been applying to places back in august.

I've applied to 6 hospitals in 4 different systems for a total of about 20 jobs. only 1 is a new grad residency that is offered in my area.

i've not heard back from a single place but most of them i applied to this week. i dont think i'll hear back from the residency till about november.

To the new grads who have gotten interviews at hospitals...may I ask what city and state or specific hospitals these are? I am in Boston and it is looking real grim for new grads here. I'm licensed in MA and recently applied for my NY license in order to apply there to expand my options/chances. A basic requirement for any position posted is that you must hold that states license in order to apply. I've just been applying out of state to any and all hospitals but have not heard back. I am eligible to apply for licensure as soon as an offer is made. I just don't want to spend $200 for every state and not be guaranteed a job anywhere....do you know all know whether this hurts my chances of even getting that interview?

Katie where do you live? I would love to apply if there is a high demand for new grads!

July Grad. NCLEX passed in late August in MD.

1. 7 different hospitals, 10 positions

2. Only 1 new grad position (new grad positions were sporifice because of May grads)

3. 6 rejections (only knew because position was listed as closed after a while), 2 interviews coming up, 2 listed as "under review/forwarded to hiring manager" by application system

4. First interview in a few days!

I definitely plan on applying to more jobs, but for now I feel like I've applied to all the jobs I'm qualified for in the immediate area (Baltimore). I will start applying to farther away places after these 2 interviews if I don't get some good news :writing:

May grad. Passed NCLEX May 30. License granted June 4. Started job October 2.

4. Any job offers yet?

1. 39+

2. I really don't even know. I apply to jobs that require the basics.

3. 16 (6 of those from the same VA facility)

4. I finally have recently been getting actual call backs and several interviews. I don't know if it's because I reworked my resume, got my ACLS cert, or a combination. I was offered a home health position, but I told her I had other interviews. She was not able to wait as the family needed someone ASAP. I was offered a position at a small hospital 45 minutes north of me and I accepted. I've been getting calls from 2 of the larger hospitals in my area, and I'm a little bummed because I already accepted this position. However, I think it will be a good experience.

I got the job for the nurse residency I applied to! I'm pouncing on it, as it starts super soon and I have to get my license switched over to another state. They also required a reply by Monday  so I just decided to accept it and canceled my second interview. Based on how hard it seems to find a job in this economy, I didn't really want to chance losing a solid offer.

Best of luck to everyone out there!

OH wow you are so lucky. congrats on your new job:)

Congratulations!!!

I've applied to over 30 jobs pre-licensure and I've had 5 automatic rejections for not being licensed. My work interviewed me and wants to do a nurse extern to nurse intern to orienting nurse progression with me but they need confirmation they can do that.
