A long lost "Nurse" poem from long ago....

[Hi all, I wrote this the year I graduated from nursing school...Actually, the day before graduation.....Was interested in knowing if you think it is worthy of being submitted for publication.....

NURSE.....1981

I arrived with visions of Florence Nightingale and healing the world...I leave remembering a thousand faces....

Diseased bodies, worried minds, tired hearts, leaps of faith, and I learned to care....

Sitting after clinical with a dying father of four as he memorized the faces of his children and their squeals of laughter, I learned to cry without shame....

I watched a mother kiss the miracle of her newborn baby and I grasped joy......Conversely, I shared a broken heart with parents not yet destined to be greeted with a child full of life; praying for their angel and sending silent hugs.....I learned that in silence there are sometimes so many more important messages to convey.....

I stood with an elderly gentleman sans visitors as he stared sadly at the brilliant Christmas, footprintless snow, and for the first time understood true lonliness...

I ran beside a young man rushing in with his sick little son and I owned heart wrenching sickening fear....As I joined him in prayer, I was reminded that with God there is always hope....

The world no longer revolves around me...I revolve around the world, the world of those needing help, and it has been the greatest of all gifts to have been graced with the opportunity to play such an extraordinary part...

Birth, death and the interim; the precious pulse of life....

I am a nurse and I am the lucky one...

publish it!!It is worth hearing!!!

I think that's fantastic, go for it! You brought me to tears... (not that it's so hard to do LOL). Sometimes I wonder if I'm not too tender-hearted to pursue a healthcare profession...

Yes I think it is very worthy. How many nurses bother to put -or have time to put-their feelings in writing. This would make a nice addition to our otherwise "dry" journals. Do it....

It would be a shame if you didn't have it published!

Thankyou so much...YOU are the people I want to be able to reach, so that those of us who are NOT nurses or do not understand what it means to be one or work with one, can get at least a minute grasp of how special we are....I truly appreciate all of your opinions and welcome those from those of you who might not like the poem.....Again, my heartfelt thanks...

That is beautiful...looking through the eyes of a nurse. Most people see us rushing around and trying to act professional...to be strong for others. You have brought to life our silent emotions...Wonderful!

I just read one of your other poems and went to find this one - very beautiful. Publish it.
