Do you have a visa allowing you to work?

For TN you have to meet their requirements and this may even be the case if you get your license in another state. I would suggest you contact the nursing board and see what you have to do to endorse

thanks..i just got here 2mos ago so my papers is still under works...hoping to have my permit to work next month but prolly wont be able to work in a medical field..i guess im just gonna have to take CGFNS coz TN requires it...but its just gonna take so looong...anyways, thank you so much!

am a licensed nurse in the phils. and am here now in TN with my husband...and was wondering what i should do to be able to practice my profession here..checked the TN board of nsg and they require for me to take CGFNS then the NCLEX.a friend suggested i take NCLEX of those other states that doesnt require CGFNS and then just do an endorsement..how wise is this?i just want to get everything done quickly as not to waste time...help!!!!pretty please????

That will work just fine.

I would also strongly suggest a review in the English language. Try Scribners Handbook for writers. That's a tool that we used in upper division college English. There are different topics and from what I remember there were some regarding short essays. Good Luck

That's correct but many states require an English-proficiency exam for anyone educated outside the US.

The Philippines was conquored by the Spanish hence a former territory (or how ever you want to call it) of Spain hence, the reason why so many Filipinos have Spanish surnames. Just because English is the business language doesn't mean anything. It doesn't mean that one is proficient in the English language, and that goes both ways for foreign & US educated grad. Some require you to pass English exams. People have asked me what tools to use and I recommend that book because that's what we used in upper division college English. Here in the US, (Cailfornia in particular) before you graduate from college you must pass upper division English in order to obtain a Bachelors degree, and that's the required text we used.

I know the Philippine nurses are "taught" in English but that doesn't mean they are fluent in English. Check the BON for their requirement. Communicating in the native language is critical when doing patient care unlike business where a miscommunication can lead to a death.

I believe that applies only if the subject was not taught in English. Majority of Nursing School in Philippines the textbooks and classes are English based

USA took over Philippines over 100 years ago when the defeated Spain in the Spanish American War. The older generation was fluent in Spanish, but most of them are now gone. The USA influences the Philippines and that's why most Filipinos are fluent in English. :lol2:
