A CNA license Question

U.S.A. Missouri

HEy guys I'm a Certified Nursing Assistant and I was just curious as to if any of you all knew what you have to do in order to keep your license year to year...I had to take off work in March for an illness and I'm worried I'll lose it. I remember I was told oyu had to work 8 hours a year in a state funded facility, but since I quit in March of this year what about inservices? Do those hours matter or is it just the 8 hours that do? I'd hate to have to take that whole class and test out all over again:rolleyes: Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Call your state board of nursing or check out their web site. CNAs are considered certified, not licensed.

Your certification is still active if you're wanting to go back to work.

Once you have recieved your license, you always have it unless you do something wrong. You don't have to renew it like the RNs do.

you are required to work 8 hours per year in a medical facility, and to complete 12 CEUs per year. If they choose to audit your CEUs, which they can do- you have to have them, but I don't believe they pull your certification if you don't. I would give them a call and find out for sure. The last facility you worked for should be reporting your employment to the State (usually during survey)- but if not, just fax them a copy of our last paystub that shows your hours.

Hi My Name Is Consuello Washington I Am Try Find Out How I Can I Receive My Certification Online For A Nursing Assistant Is There Someone Out There That Can Help Answer My Question.

i'm a cna as well... and i believe what i was told... if you dont use your cna for an entire year - you have to challenge the test.. and if you go longer than 5 years .. you have to retake the entire course.

I was told if you worked 1 8 hour shift on the very last day of the one year- it counts and you wont have to challenge the test.

Hope this helps.

I am currently in Iowa and I will be taking my CNA before I move back to St. Louis. Since I won't be working in Iowa, when I move back to St. Louis will I have to get certified there and take the test over. Or do I have to take the class over?

You might want to check with the Missouri Health Care Association. They might recognize your certification from Iowa and they may not. Some states are transferrable. Worst case scenario you will have to challenge the Missouri CNA test. Good Luck to yah !!!

For Missouri, to keep your license active you have to work a 1-8-2. 1, 8 hours shift every 2 years. You need to make sure its reported on your taxes, and your position is called a Certified Nurse Aid, or something along those lines.

I have just gotten my Fl. CNA license (about a month ago) here in Florida and as am having difficulty getting a job ,wish to know where I can do inservices independently so I can keep my license.

I was told you have to work 1 8hr shift every 2 yrs. to keep your certification.
